I think it's a NJ thing. I couldn't imagine letting S play outside alone b/c of the risk of kidnapping. It's just so busy here I just can't imagine not having that worry....although it must be really nice.?

Re: NikkiBenzo--re: playing outside alone post
I know, I was thinking the same thing when I was responding to the post. Especially since I am so close to NY and I watch the NY news and all you see is people getting killed everyday! There is NOTHING good going on the news EVER!
I always say to my husband when the news is on, why can't they just report, "A puppy was born today!" It's always something horrible! And children are always being hurt! I love NJ, but sometimes I wish I could move to a safer "slower" place.

i wouldn't probably ever let my child under 12+ play outside totally alone.... it's not just about kidnapping- but just getting hurt and nobody being there to help- not even a friend.
My friend choked to death at age 16 - and he was with friends---- i wouldn't want my child outside totally alone, period.... I'm in NJ, too- but bad stuff happens in the most rural areas - sometimes that is wehre more of the true wackos live
lol
Totally agree about the rural areas and the true wackos!!!

For sure...I grew up in a tiny little rural town & no one ever thought anything would happen...well a little 6yr old girl was roller skating on her sidewalk a town over (pop. 4000) & got snatched. They found her dead several days later in a barn a few hours away. I live in the middle of the city & feel more secure living around a lot of people (so they can hear screaming, etc) than I do when we are in the country at our vacation home.
