How are you sleeping?

The thread about weird dreams made me wonder how you ladies are sleeping at night.  I went out and bought one of the big body pillows with the curve at the top and bottom.  I'm not using it every night because it makes me too warm, and when I'm too warm I have extra bizarro, borderline disturbing dreams.  I'm mostly sleeping on my right side or on my back, sometimes with a pillow under my knees.

Any tips or tricks for getting comfy?  For getting back to sleep after 3 AM bathroom runs?

  • I'm sleeping OK except for DH's snoring.

  • I'm happy because my nightly pee runs seem to have decreased to only 1 or 2 a night (down from 3 to sometimes 4!). I usually fall back asleep quickly. If I don't, I play with my cat who also sleeps on the bed. Haha
  • I've been sleeping like absolute crap.  SS used to wet the bed so we would cut him off from drinking anything past 7pm....now I've cut myself off!!!  I've been up every hour to hour and a half for at least the past two months.....I'm pretty sure DH brings a chainsaw to bed with us, I have to get up to pee constantly and can never get comfy......and combined with the whacko dreams!!!  I've actually went and slept on the couch a few nights.  Last night was actually the first time I slept through from 1am to 6am that I can remember in a long time.  Apparently there was a huge thunderstorm here in NY around that I totally slept through, everyone's talking about it and I had no clue.  Needed those Z's!!

I find I'm getting up a little less frequently now at 16 weeks, but I know it's just going to get worse again soon.  I do remember from my previous pregnancies that my bladder control was totally awesome right after my kids were born, because I had to work so hard for months to keep control!

I am taking half a unisom every night and it really helps me fall asleep, stay asleep and fall back asleep when I do wake up in the night.  I had such bad insomnia my first pregnancy, I vowed I wouldn't let myself get in that state again just to avoid taking a tiny piece of a tiny pill that is safe in pregnancy.

  • I slept great last night for the first time in a while but it was probably midnight before I went to bed. Usually I wake up often while trying to get situated or because I need to pee then it takes me forever to go back to sleep. I have been waking up between 3-4 and laying there praying to go back to sleep and of course I do right before my DD decides to get up for the day :-/

I've been sleeping like a rock the past few nights.  When I do have to get up to pee, I don't turn lights on.  I pretty much sleep walk to the bathroom, pee and get back into bed.

  • Right this moment I have a terrible cold so I can't breathe which means I haven't been sleeping much at all.  Before the cold I was having lots of success with my snoogle and then a blanket stuffed between the snoogle and my back.  The extra back support really helped me.

  • I was sleeping find until a couple nights ago when dreamt I was in labor all night and woke up with a sore back. Since then I've busy out the body pillow, and been sleeping well again. :) one thing I know doesn't help is if I turn on the lights when I go to the bathroom, and if I turn on my phone. I need to just close my eyes and go back to bed!

I hope you find some good suggestions!

I'm also a back sleeper so converting to sleeping on my side has been difficult.  I just can't get comfortable and last night in addition to the joys of back pain, and getting up to pee all the time, I discovered neck and shoulder pain, fun.  I'm thinking of biting the bullet and buying a snoogle or similar type pillow, I know I'll never hear the end of it from DH, but whatever, if it bothers him that much, there's always the couch :)   Is the snoogle worth the $$$?

As long as my husband behaves, I am ok.  Sometimes he is fidgety as hell...  and wants to cuddle.  (no thanks!   ;)  )

However, if he has passed right out - I'm good.  He is a very silent sleeper (a few times I thought he was dead! lol)  Then I just get up for my two pees, and I am fine.  If it is starting to get light I put on an eye mask, and that really helps me fall back to sleep.

I have a wedge pillow for my belly.  I haven't started using it yet, though.

The snoogle and the Doppler have been the best money I have ever spent.

  • I'm sleeping pretty good. I always have insane dramatic dreams. However lately the seem to be nightmares about something bad happening to DD or DH. It is super shitty :(

  • Woke up at 4:43 am to pee.......laid there til 5:30 so restless I felt like I could do laps around the block. Finally gave in and just got up. Gonna be a loooong day looks like. Although I'm off today so I'll probably be able to get a nap in :) My 8 yr old son is homeschooled so he's home with me. Hopefully he'll let me get an hour or so of sleep though!

  • I bought a snoogle at babiesRUs but showed them amazons price and they matched it fyi saved almost $20 and got it right away. I'm sleeping better with it but still not great.
  • I just asked about the snoogle on another thread!!  Thanks ladies, looks like that'll be my birthday present to myself.

DS still gets up at least once a night, last night it was 3 times (REALLY hoping he starts sleeping before new baby comes).  So that along with having restless legs = a super crappy nights sleep for this mama.
