He peed on the potty!! Oh gosh...help...

DS started showing interest in the potty around 18 months so we bought a little potty for him and put it in the bathroom just so he would get used to seeing it and sit on it whenever he felt like it. Over the last couple of weeks, he has started putting his Spiderman/teddy bear/other toys on the potty. In the last week or so, he has begun telling me "poop" when he is about to poop, but when I ask if he wants to sit on the potty, he doesn't want to or produces nothing. No biggie. Tonight, after his bath, he says "poop" and I ask if he wants to sit on his potty..."yes!" Sit. Pee. Stop because he's so excited! Pee. Stop. Pee...... Anyways, he did a full pee pee!

We rejoiced and I praised him for doing a great job. He was very happy!! When the high wore off, I'm like
HOLD THE PHONE... does it mean it's time to potty train??? NOW???

I have no clue what method to use... I'm due in August with baby #2... Do I start now or wait?... Training pants or underwear?... Books to read? (Ha! Who has time to read a whole book about potty training?!)...
So, any advice/methods would be helpful! Thanks ladies!

I say follow his lead if he seems ready go for it. Follow his lead. I think regressions can happens with or with out baby. So you might as well go for it if he's excited and willing. As for how you go about doing it is really up to you and your parenting style. Some people do the 3 day training technique, some say no pull ups, and of course you could go with pull ups.

I trained R in a week with pee pees. Poops are hit and miss still. We actually got a potty at 15 months and i would just sit her on it fully clothed then we progressed to going when she wanted. At 18 months i decided she was ready for full training because of how she acted. She was telling me eww everytime she would pee in her diaper so i just switched her to panties and took her to the potty every hour or if she would say peepee or poop. She would go and she would get a sticker on her chart. After a week she was telling me and running to her potty. Now she is in panties all the time. Sometimes she has accidents but i think that is to be expected. Ive heard letting a boy run naked helps also throwing fruit loops into the toilet, for targets, helps but i have a girl so ive never tried either of those. Good Luck!

  • My ds has been peeing in the potty before bath for the past month or so. I haven't gotten any further than that! I feel he's still too young but on e he's two or able to pull his pants down on his own I'll probably just jump in and do it!
  • We are way behind in this area. Every time I ask Kate if she wants to try to pee on the potty she shakes her head, says "noooo" all dramatically and runs away.
