Help! What to serve for B'day party

Ok, I'll admit it - I'm a bad mom. I decided a few months back that I wasn't going to do the big first birthday party thing. I was going to do a little planning but then the holidays and the snow got the better of me and I've done nothing. So I'm winging it and Sydney's birthday party is in 1 1/2 hours (Yikes!). On top of that, kiddo came down with a cold and was up all night so my brain is fried. I need some quick Nestie help.

We're just having the grandparents and DHs sister over so it's no big deal but I would like to have something for them to eat. Here's what I have so far:

Sandwich bar (rolls, meats, cheese, condiments, etc. - make your own sandwich)

A salad

Cupcakes

Sad right? So I was going to run to the store shortly and pick up chips, dip, crackers. Anything else I should think of?  Or does that sound fine?

  • That sounds perfect...although I personally would add one "hot" side...like meatballs or lil smokies.

I'm doing the same exact thing as you ;)

  • It sounds fine, but if you want something more, you can do some tomato slices and mozzarella drizzled with balsamic vinegar, with some shredded basil on top.

?You can also make chocolate covered strawberries by melting chocolate chips in the microwave and dipping strawberries in them.?It's really fast and easy but people are always really impressed.

  • I would pick up some soda or juice (if you don't already have drinks) It really sounds like you're ok on food, especially if there aren't going to be a ton of people there. A hot side might be nice if you can think of something but try not to stress, it's her first birthday party, you should have fun.
  • What you have sounds fine! Put some chips in a bowl and call it good!

  • Sounds great, I would just add some chips and dip and your set!

  • Yum! Now I'm craving potato chips.

You could also pick up some of that pre-made fruit salad with melon and pineapple and stuff. But I think you have plenty of stuff! The focus probably won't be on the food. ;) And you're NOT a bad mom!!!?

  • Thanks guys! I know I can always count on you. I ended up picking up some chips, artichoke dip, reesers french onion dip (real dip as my dad calls it) and some crackers. I put out a bowl of grapes too. I heated the artichoke dip up in the microwave as my "hot" side - that'll do right? We've got, coffee & tea which  is all our parents drink and sparkling cider and lemonade. Kiddo is napping, the table is set, I think we're good to go. Thanks again!
  • Can't wait to see pics!!!

  • You're definitely not a bad mom, I think a small party can be much less overwhelming for little ones anyway. And I must say your spread sounds delicious...can we all come over for the leftovers? :)
