Cloth Diapering

Storage question

I have about 10 pockets from when I dabbled in CDing when DD was 6-10months old. At the time I felt like I couldnt spend the money on a full stash, and that was my undoing. 10 wasn't enough and I didn't want to do the laundry every day.

So anyways, these diapers have been sitting clean in a closet organizer in DD's room for almost 3 years. I am hoping I can use them again for LO #2, but should I be treating them any special way? Until joining this board I didnt realized that the elastic might be degrading as they sit there. There are a few WAHM diaps, and 2 GroVias, 1 BG 4.0, and several Smartipants. Except for the WAHM ones which I got new, I got them all through Jillians Drawers gently used stock.

Check the elastic and PUL for cracks.

Turn them inside out and look for cracks. Stretch the elastic on the legs and back to make sure it has give.

The 4.0 pockets are easy to replace the elastic, but a little time consuming.

Personally, if all was good, I'd put them through one wash cycle with detergent and an extra rinse.

  • I agree with @sarenu1, and I wanted to add that sometimes the cracks in PUL are a little bit hard to see. I bought 8 used BGs and they all leaked. When I turned them inside out and stretched them gently in the side-to-side direction, all these tiny little cracks were suddenly easy to see. Hopefully yours will be fine since it sounds like they weren't used much and were stored in a well-ventilated area. GL!
