Non stop

My LO is 5.5 wks old and in the last 24 hours he has been on my boob every hour for up to 45 minutes each hour. Should I be worried?

Re: Non stop

  • He cries when he isn't latched and didn't nap well yesterday or today.

My first thought is 6 week growth spurt. Totally normal and totally physically and mentally draining. Hang in there it usually only lasts a day or so.

Sucking a lot at the breast can also indicate low supply, but if LOs diaper output is fine, I would assume its just a growth spurt.

Thank you, I will assume it's a growth spurt unless it last more than a few days. Also at 5-6 weeks, how many wet/dirty diapers should he have? I don't normally keep a tally but since he's acting a little different I want to make sure he is ok.

  • I find baby wearing, holding, and cuddling baby helps during growth spurts

  • Sounds like a growth spurt. My DD cluster fed like a beast for WEEKS. Always had enough diapers, she just found nursing very comforting and never took a paci. It was tough and I shed many a tear on her poor little head but now I almost miss it. (WHAT?! AM I NUTS?) I second baby wearing and lots of skin to skin or at least bodily contact. I never had those "nurse every hour" type growth spurt days but Wonder Weeks hit us like a sack of bricks and baby wearing helps A LOT.

  • Do you ladies sleep while holding baby? I'm in the middle of what seems to be a growth spurt and she is only sleeping for short periods if time which means no sleep for me. It's so hard!
  • I second what others have said with a growth spurt. They can be brutal.
