Second trimester discharge--color

Hi ladies!

I've been wearing pantyliners for the past couple of weeks as my discharge has increased.  They are always a little damp of course, but up until a few days ago always looked still white.  The last couple of days I've noticed they are getting stained light yellow/tan (not really brown but more muted) throughout the day.  It's not enough to soak the pad, just a few streaks of it here and there.  Does discharge dry this color perhaps??

Any thoughts?  Urine leakage?  Anyone else had this?  Should I assume this might be old blood and call my doctor, or is this one of those "normal, don't freakout, every woman deals with this kinda thing" situation??

Re: Second trimester discharge--color

  • I think it's normal as long as it doesn't have a weird smell!  I have it too.

  • My intuition seems to be telling me it's normal, but of course as a first time mom worrisome thoughts sneak in!

Extra info:  When I wipe from peeing, it's typically only clear and yellow, but a couple of times this week it's wiped with a teensy bit of the muted tan/brown too.

Again, it all seems like stuff I've seen described on these boards as normal, but hearing that others have the same thing helps!  I have a call into my nurses' line, hopefully they will have some insight as well.
  • Thanks y'all, all comments have been extremely helpful!!!
  • I'm 20w and have had some light rust color recently. I think too if you are peeing a little it will turn it yellow as you wipe either between peeing or if you don't wipe well enough.
  • As soon as I hit 14 weeks I began to have a more rust colored discharge. I think we are normal as long as it doesn't smell or appear bloody. It's just different than what we are used to. Not sure why this began happening in second trimester??
  • Mine suddenly became thicker and heavier...Thank God for sites like these.  I forget a lot of what I went through during my first pregnancy.
I spotted the weekend before last.  Since I had a previous loss, I automatically assumed it was happening again.
As gross as it sounds, I brought my liner in a ziplock bag to the ER.  Surprisingly enough, they requested to see it more than once to judge the amount of bleeding.
I noticed that sometimes when my discharge dries, the colour turns to what appears a beige type of colour.  If you are concerned at all, it wouldn't hurt to just get in to your OB and just put your mind at ease.
    Trust your gut!
