NBR: fitness trackers

I am tracking calories and fitness with the My Fitness Pal app on my iPhone but I would like to get a more accurate reading on my calories burned, steps walked, etc.
I am considering getting a wrist tracker like the Fitbit or the Nike fit fuelband or something along those lines.

Does anyone have any experience with these and/or any recommendations? I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on one, but I don't want a cheap junky one either. My max would probably be $150? So the Nike is out at $230 starting! Any advice or info is appreciated! TIA!

I don't have personal experience but I'm looking at getting something like the fitbit as well. From the research I've done, they all have a decent amount of "bad readings" for lack of a better explanation. Basically, no matter what you get it's obviously not going to be 100% accurate but from what I've read, there isn't a ton of difference as to how "off" they are. I think a lot of the price variance comes down to looks. They all have fairly similar functions and they all cross to "My Fitness Pal". I will probably get the fitbit, I like that it's fairly small and I really like the sleep tracker aspect of it.

I'll be following this to see people's actual experiences, I really hope something like this could help motivate me.

  • I have the Fitbit Flex and really love it! It definitely keeps me more motivated. I use MyFitnessPal too and it will adjust my calorie count for the day depending on how many steps I've taken. The Fitbit app is very user friendly as well. The Flex also has a "silent alarm" where you can set alarms throughout the day or at nighttime and it will gently vibrate to remind you (I use it to remind me to take my pill (no more babies yet! :-)) and to wake up in the AM.
  • I too, use the fitbit flex in addition to myfitnesspal. I love it. As PP's have already mentioned, it's a great way to track your activity, your sleep, and your calories. I like that it keeps me accountable.

Thanks ladies for your input! I read mixed reviews about bands breaking, so I wasn't sure if it was sturdy or junky!

  • I use my fitness pal for calories in food but a good old fashioned heart rate monitor for what I burn working out. Mine is by polar- I love it.
