Does anyone have any tips for making Lovenox less painful? Because crap-on-a-cracker that hurt!

I found if I injected super slow it would burn less. It sometimes took me 2-3 minutes to finish injecting the whole thing.

Thanks! Did that also help it burn less afterward? The injecting part stung, but I could deal; it was really afterwards that it hurt like a mother.

My H takes Enbrel and that burns like a mofo after injecting.  We found if you hold a warm compress over it for a few minutes that it helps with the burning.  I usually take a wash cloth and run it under water, wring it out and pop in the microwave for 10 sec and then just hold it over injection site until it cools.  He said it helps a lot with the burning sensation.

No tips!! I even did a lidocaine jelly and it still burns like a mofo! Out of all my injectables Lovenox for sure is the worst one... Even PIO is easy compared to the lovenox...who would have thought?

In a weird way, it's a huge relief to hear this. I've been dreading starting the PIO. 

I danced around the house after the Lovenox this morning, swearing up a blue streak. My husband stood in the corner, and proclaimed it "a special day" in our house

LoL. Don't get me wrong though.... After I was on PIO for 11 weeks I had huge knots in the muscle which hurt if I grazed them with a door; but it still doesn't hurt the way LOVENOX hurts! Holy cow man I hate the LOVENOX.

P.s. With PIO alternate spots and sides daily; it helps with the knots.
Again I have no advice about the lovenox sucker just hurts

I inject it SUPER slowly and then walk around and clean the kitchen, keep busy until it stops burning! I know it sucks but just remember this is helping you!!! Also, I've bene on lovenox for about 20 days and I honestly don't feel the burn as much anymore... Some days are worse than others. I just keep my mind distracted rather than sitting there thinking about how bad it stings lol

Try icing before and after and injecting nice and slow. This really helps me a lot. Don't use heat or massage- it's a blood thinner and heat/massage may increase likelihood of bruising.

I am grateful you started this thread! I'll be starting Lovenox after ER and will try both (slightly opposite) pieces of advice- to use a warm compress per @kushie77 and the icing per @kz's_girlygirl and will see if either work. Up till now my least favorite shot was the Ganirelix shots, which didn't hurt to inject but stung for a good 10 mins after. I got switched to Cetrotide, so hoping that may help.

I thought it was just me, and I was being wus about it. Glad to know Im not alone. Ive even gotten bruises from it. Coming from a chick that really doesnt bruise easily, its a big deal to have dark purple blotches across your stomach.

Nope! That shiz hurts. None of the other injections have been too bad - the menopur definitely burned, but it resolved fairly quickly. And even my IM trigger was painless, because I iced it for about 10 minutes beforehand (I actually freaked out a little, because I was convinced I did it wrong because it didn't hurt at all!)

As a side note, I'm really having trouble getting that needle in. I might be becoming Unbreakable, y'all. Look for me on the news.

I am thankful for this thread too. 

I am starting Lovenox on CD6 for my upcoming IUI. Luckily the menopur is IM, so I won't feel anything, but I am freaking out about this one. A few cycles back, when I was taking menopur sub-q my thighs were totally black and blue and we couldn't find another place to stick me by CD11- and that was without any blood thinner. Good thing it's not quite warm enough out for shorts.

Oh the BRUISES!! They are so bad! 3 weeks since my last lovenox injections and I can still see some of the bruises! My stomach looked like my DH had been beating me X_X

@O2girl‌ right! DH is very concerned about it. Did you notice little under the skin lumps or knots at the bruise area? I have one that is freaking me out. But OAN, how you been holding up. I've been thinking of you.

I had one lump. But frankly all the bruises hurt so bad that I didn't want to feel around too much on them.

Awe thanks sweetie. I'm doing ok. I'm mostly frustrated that I'm in a holding pattern until I can at least talk to the new RE about what steps are best to take. I'm not going to lie it has been a really rough month..... But I'm holding it together. Thanks for asking. When is your FET? It is coming up shortly isn't it?

As a nurse I give lovenox in the hospital all the time and I have never had a patient complained it burned. Are you ladies injecting it in your stomach? It is supposed to be given in the love handles where there is more tissue hope this helps anyone
