My son, who will be 2 at the end of June, is constantly asking for "cookies" (though that's his general term for a snack). I provide him with plenty of fruit and other healthy snacks (and sometimes cookies) and he has constant access to water if he's thirsty(and milk. No soda or sugary drinks). He gets 3 solid meals a day (sometimes 4 small ones if it's a super active day) but always seems to be asking for more. I didn't have this issue with my daughter. Are boys just that much different?
Re: Constantly wants to eat
So far today he has eaten a large banana, 2 pancakes with no syrup, 1 cup goldfish crackers, 1 cup mandarin oranges, 1 yogurt, and 5 strawberries and is still asking for more. This is from when he got up at 7am until now (10:48 am). He has also had a sippy cup full of milk and a is working on his 2nd cup of water.
Don't think it is a gender thing. My 15 month old daughter is the same. It's a metabolism thing. Not sure if my daughter has a fast metabolism or just a poor metabolism but she eats more than a teenage boy most days. If it is healthy food you are serving then serve it. It is hard for a child this young to over eat. If he ate 20min ago then try distraction...if he is truly hungry he will keep letting you know. If he forgets and plays then he may have been bored.
I wouldn't hold back food...as long as it is healthy (like the foods you listed).
It must just be his metabolism. If #3 is this way I will go broke feeding them lol
