bfp and progesterone question

I'm happy to announce I got an early bfp yesterday! Dh and I were on vacation so I didn't confirm ovulation but my clear blue pregnancy test with week s estimation and my intuition line up at 3 to 4 weeks along.

I was supposed to get my progesterone tested when ovulating but couldn't because we were out of town, I just got the results from a blood test, 13.8. Has anyone had to take supplements? I'm sure I'll find out from my CNM but you ladies helped my pinpoint with my last loss that my progesterone might be on the low side, it was something like .15 at the last ovulation, two weeks after my MC.so any info will be taken as light conversation and not medical advice, I just wanted to talk about it with those who've been there done that :-)

Congrats! I know that the number they look for just past ovulation for an unmedicated cycle is 10 or higher, but I think 13 Is a bit low for being pregnant. I think mine was like 30 (definitely well over 20, at least) when I had my first beta at 11 dpo. I would ask for a prescription asap. Extra doesn't hurt and might help. FX for you!

Also, if they do put you on supplements, you'll probably need to stay on until 9-10 weeks, when the placenta takes over.

Thanks @ELF4321 !  I just got word from my CNM that she'd like me to take progesterone supplements until week 12, twice a day, which I hear are messy, lol, but I got what I asked for, so hopefully this will help this baby stay!!
  • I don't have any advice, just wanted to say CONGRATS!!!!!

Congrats!  I think my levels were around 14-16ish when I first got my bfp with DS.  I also too the suppositories twice a day  for 12 weeks.  I found that waking up an hour before I had to get out of bed in the AM and going to the bathroom and then coming back to bed and doing the suppository and then laying there for an hour worked well.  They told me I just had to do 20-30 minutes at a time, but they made me really tired so I did it when I had an hour to lay on my side.  And allowing that much time made them less messy and more of it stayed in then if that makes sense.  If you have any questions let me know.  Good luck!  It is inconvenient, but so worth it if it works!

  • @k4slr6 Thanks!  I've been trying to do them in the morning and go back to bed but it has to be if LO is still asleep, if he's awake I wait until he's eating breakfast and go lay on the couch so I can keep an eye on him but still be laying down...that definately is never long enough though!

Yes it is definitely a challenge with a little one.  I laid on the couch or floor too if LO was awake and I was home alone.  I finally started getting up at 4:30AM b/c I had to be up by 5:30ish just in case LO was up and DH had to leave before 5:30.  Night time was easier once it was bedtime I just did it as soon as DD was asleep.  One thing I found out is that progesterone can make your morning sickness worse if you have it.  I had it really bad with both of them so I don't think it was the progesterone for me.

I've had pretty bad nausea this go round so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the progesterone!
