Nwmr anyone familiar with Vail, CO?

We are looking to go for a long weekend off season and want to stay at a higher end hotel that is located walking distance to shops and restaurants in whatever the "main" area of vail is... Since I don't really know where that would be( is it vail village?)I am not sure which hotels would have the best location for that... Any ideas? Thanks!

A good friend of mine used to live in Vail.  She recommends Trivoli Lodge and the Lodge at Vail.  There are a lot of places in the village that provide easy access to shops and dining.  Having been there once, I think you will love it!

  • if you really want to stay at a high end hotel, there is a ritz-carlton there.  Basically, any hotels in Vail Village are what you are looking for.  My husband used to go every summer, and stayed at various hotels.  I forget where we stayed the one time I went with him, but basically check out anything located in the village and you'll be walking distance from the "action," although, IMO, there really wasn't all that much action going on in the summer.  Basically, you'll have shops and restaurants in walking distance, and on the weekend there is a farmer's market.

  • I second the vote for Sonnenalp.  It's a beautiful hotel, with a lovely outdoor area with a bar, pool, and fantastic views.  Plus its directly on the main drag in Vail, although as nawlinsgrl said, summer tends to be a bit quieter up in the mountains (that may be changing as the resorts are really pushing for summer tourism events - Vail has a Jazz series, and I think Beaver Creek is doing a big Blue Grass festival.... check the resort calendars for more info).

Have fun! Summer up in the CO mountains is the best.
