Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Driving with baby

How do you feel about other people (grandparents/sitters) driving with you LO in their car? I have not had anyone besides DH or myself drive with her in the car. I fear that they will not buckle her in correctly. Should I continue to say no or am I just being paranoid?

Re: Driving with baby

  • I think you should definitely educate anyone who drives with LO. Car seats can be tricky and all are just a little different. Id still feel a little on edge in the beginning but as long as I was confident that they could work the car seat properly, I think I would eventually get over it.
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.

The only person who had driven LO besides me or DH is a friend of mine.  She's a mother of 3 and anytime she's driven him anywhere I've also been in the car and I installed his seat and buckled him into it.  LO is 20 months.

I agree with PP.  If you let anyone drive her make sure they now how to properly buckle her into her seat.  Carseats now are very different than the ones we rode in so don't assume a grandparent knows what they are doing.  Over the summer I found out MIL was violating the law when transporting SIL's youngest.  SIL also didn't realize the law was being violated.

Just make sure they know how to properly buckle the child in the seat and mount the seat in their vehicle.

As long as you trust their normal driving habits, it should be a non issue.

  • My mom watches my DS and drives him to my office every day at lunchtime to nurse. She is very cautious (she's a nurse) and always has him buckled in correctly.  Also, we bought a base for her car to make it easy for her to just click it in.  I would say that as long as you educate the person on how to properly buckle your child into the seat, you should be fine.  But, I would definitely be weary of other people driving LO around without me in the car!
