So I visited my OB today and asked about the tdap. Her office doesn't do it, but she said I could always go to my family doctor and get it if I want it during 3rd trimester. We moved here and immediately were pregnant, so I actually do not have a family doctor yet. Otherwise, she said they will give it to me in the hospital after delivery.
Just curious whether y'all would search for a doctor and get the shot now (29 weeks) or wait until the hospital. My husband and family visitors will have it before the baby is born.

My OB practice strongly recommends it around 28 weeks, so I got it at my appointment this morning.  When I had DS in 2010 I got it before I left the hospital but I know the CDC has changed their recommendation since then.

You can probably just get it at Target or another pharmacy since your OB's office doesn't do it.

My OB's office gives every pregnant woman this vaccine at their 28 week appointment.  The purpose of doing it while you are still pregnant is because your baby will acquire some of the antibodies.  I'm surprised that your OB doesn't offer the vaccine at her practice and/or basically insist that you get it now vs waiting until the baby is born.

My OB gave it to me yesterday at 28 week appt. she said the vaccine takes about 12 weeks to have full effect. She also said that by doing it early I would pass on some of the antibodies to the baby, so the baby would have a little protection as well. DH doesnt have a primary doctor so we called a walk in clinic and they said they could give it to him. I would just call around, I know the last time I got it while in college I went to the county health department and they charged me like $5 or $10.

I had mine at my appointment today. They said if my husband should want one he could go to a pharmacy or our PCP so as PP's said you could go to like a Walgreens or something. They use to give it in the hospital but now they do it during pregnancy so that the baby is protected until he/she can receive it at 2 months old. I would definitely look into getting it somewhere.

I agree about checking out pricing at pharmacies.  I got my flu shot at one and had to pay OOP (only $28, but still...it would have been cheaper at the doctor's). 

Also, urgent care may be billed to insurance like an ER visit, so it might be really pricey there. 

I'm really surprised the OB doesn't offer this!

huh, interesting. Glad I opened this thread! I was told at my appt last week that I'd be getting the vaccine only before I left the hospital. I will ask again at my next appt.

Something to consider Tdap is around $300 self pay, you can go to CVS, Costco, Walgreens, etc or call and see how much they'd charge you they can plug in your insurance and should be able to tell you from what I have gathered they can also bill your insurance.

Oh and you don't have to be a costco memeber to use the pharmacy. They are competetively priced too, I've called them for pts before.

That's what happened to me.  My OB doesn't do it in the office and I didn't feel like making another appointment with my GP and taking more time off work.  So I went to Walgreens, but my insurance doesn't cover it.  It cost me $60 out of pocket.  I checked with my insurance and I can't submit it at all.

DH got it at his annual physical with our GP and it was covered 100% by the insurance.  So keep that in mind.
