anyone here not going to do cow's milk

I don't know why, but this is already stressing me out.  I keep hearing more and more bad things about cow's milk and even though my son goes through it like crazy, I was thinking of maybe trying Anya on Almond Milk.  I tried to get my son to switch but he doesn't like the taste.

Anyone else here doing no cow's milk?

    yeah, this.

We probably won't be using cows milk...given a pretty intense MPI (although I know many outgrow by 1 yr). Still I don't love the idea of cows milk even organic so we may do almond or coconut.
Baby Girl Cbowl born 12/2013.   Love love love.

  • I'm considering this too. We eat paleo at home so I'm on the fence about introducing dairy.
I was thinking of offering almond milk or hemp milk. Our friends buy unpasturized milk from a farmer in town and their kids love it. So much to think about
  • I won't even consume cow milk unless it meets a very specific criteria. Don't even want to begin thinking about whether or not I will feed it to future LO.

I'm not even thinking about this yet but... My son could never stomach cows milk so we did soy and now he will ONLY drink the vanilla almond milk. I will try LO on cows milk for sure. Crossing my fingers when the time comes that she doesn't have allergies like my son.
Don't stress!!! Cows milk is yummy.

haha, yes. :)  I love cows milk.  My DH on the other hand has developed lactose intolerance, so he does the almond milk now.  I'm impressed it tastes pretty similar!  I wouldn't give that to LO unless there was a reason to though, like you said.
  • aww, that article made me sad for cows :(
  • We will limit cow's milk like we do with DD but I have a tree but allergy so no almond milk.

We will be using organic hormone free cow's milk. Also when I went vegan for a while I did some research and won't drink soy milk or eat processed soy products due to their link to increased estrogen levels. I did like almond milk though. I generally search for products with the least ingredients.
yes the soy stuff is also scary.  I'm beginning to think everything is scary

  • Just for the sake of debate - there are health concerns linked not only to soy milk but also to almond, coconut and hemp milk. These nondairy milks almost always contain carageenan, which had been shown to have negative health effects.

    An example:
    https://www.drweil.com/drw/u/QAA401181/Is-Carrageenan-Safe.html

It has even banned in infant formula on Europe. I have considered making my own almond milk but it wouldn't be enhanced with calcium or contain protein like cow's milk. It would also be expensive and a huge hassle.

    We just can't win!

Yes, I was going to point this out, you have to be careful of allergies of the almond milk, as well as artificial sweeteners if you choose a flavored one.

I love whole cow's milk! I did not read the article for fear that it would ruin it for me.

I introduced wcm to DS when he was 10 months old as per my ped. I cut half milk with half water in his bottle before bed. I don't know if it was coincidence or not but that first I gave it was the first night he started sttn. I plan to do the same for DD.

Also I noticed (and I started a thread about this a month ago when I started having supply issues) if I drink a big glass of milk before bed I notice an increase in my supply the following day. If I skip the milk I have trouble keeping up with her the following day. Again I don't know if it's coincidence or simply the extra calories but it does seem to help me.

  • DH and I don't drink cows milk and haven't for about 3 years, so LO will be drinking almond milk when it's time. I've got more than enough breast milk stored for her for a while so I don't think I'm going to have to worry about it for a bit, but cow's milk creeps me out.

This is us. We don't do dairy so LO will have unflavored almond milk. Glad you asked @ChiAmy‌ Makes me feel better knowing it's more common than I thought to not give LO cow milk.

@Loolaide‌ I believe you are right that the recommendation is to start at 1 year old. The ped said there was no harm in introducing it slowly at 10 months and DS seemed ready. He was probably getting only about 2 oz per day to start and I think it did help him sttn. I think it was thicker and more filling then my breast milk.

  • Does this mean you're considering having LO be completely dairy free?

If it's not bothering your first child, it doesn't seem nesessary to avoid giving it to your second, unless they've had symptoms of lactose intolerance/dairy allergies.

  • OP, are you going to stop giving your other child cow's milk?
  • Now all I want is rice milk :P yummmm

No, I tried giving him other options but he wants nothing to do with it.  I just thought I would try something different with her because of health reasons.  But I am not all against cows milk.

  • I'm a vegan and my hubby is paleo, so we do almond milk only. He has been experimenting with making our own at home, and I'm just mature enough to snicker about him buying a product called a "nut sack"
