How old was LO when you had date night?

Let me start with saying in NO WAY am I ready yet to leave LO with anyone! I had to go to an unplanned dr appt a few days ago and left him with DH and had awful separation anxiety. Anyway, I'm just wondering when you STM left LO with a grandparent or someone close for the first time and had a dinner date or something like that with DH? I know it's different for everyone. Just curious.

With DD1, she was 4 months old. We went to see Hunger Games and to dinner for my birthday. I wasn't ready much before that and even then, we timed it so that she was already in bed when we left (she was breastfed so that played a big part in when we left since I nursed her to sleep).

  • For this baby, we have three family weddings this summer (first one is mid July, DD2 will be two months). Not quite sure yet what we will do. Kids are not invited so we need to figure something out.

My parents watched DS while DH and I went out for dinner around 3 weeks. We're close to them and they'd been helping us with him while I recovered from my c-section anyway, so it was no big deal.

He spent the night with them for the first time at 2 months. It was glorious.

For a date night?  15 months.  We went to a concert.

DD had been left with people while we went to work, appointments etc, but not for a 'date' as such.  We live in a very rural area and don't get out much... If we went to dinner or something, we were just as content to have her with us at first.  Now that she can understand our conversations and repeat things, this is changing!

ETA:  We have a wedding in August, so that will probably be our first 'date' after this LO is born.

  • We actually went out to dinner when DS1 was 10 days old. It was DH's birthday, so we went to a place right up the road from our house while my mom kept DS (she was already staying with us for a week as well and she offered). We were only gone maybe 1.5 hours, but it was nice to have that time.

FTM here but we are planning to go out this weekend to celebrate our one year anniversary (late)--LO will be 18 days old and will stay with MIL and FIL for a few hours.
  • I'm a FTM but we're planning on going to a wedding this Friday and leaving DD with my mom. I've been pumping just after her first morning feeding to get enough for a few bottles. We'll probably be out for about 6 hours and she'll be 19 days old. I'm going to have to bring my pump so that'll be interesting, but I'm looking forward to a night out and a glass of wine ( or two).

Overall it's a personal decision. If it were anyone except my mother I'd probably be freaking out. It'll be a long time before she spends the night anywhere or stays with my MIL.

I think she was around 9 months before we spent the night away. She was in daycare at 5 months and they did date night once a month.
We had no issue taking her out to dinner with us when she was little little and just slept. I have a feeling it will be different with this one because my toddler can be a little bit of a handful in a resterant.

  • With DS he was born May 6 and our third anniversary was May 30. DH and I went out to dinner and had my mom watch him. I don't think I would have trusted anyone else. He is 2 now and still has never stayed the night away from us. This baby will hopefully be born NOW so we will take him on our anniversary date but have DS1 watched.
  • 4 or 5 months for just dinner and a movie. 13 months for over night.

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

  • 2 days ago SIL watched E while DH and I drove to a custard shop and brought back custard for everyone. Only took half an hour but it was incredibly nerve wracking.

We live with my in laws so my MIL watches DD once a day while I nap. DH and I went grocery shopping when DD was 1 week old and out to dinner when she was 2 weeks. I wouldn't leave her with anyone else though!
It's probably be a few months before in ready to leave her overnight! Probably for our anniversary in September.

DD was born 5/2. MIL watched DS (5) and DD on 5/13 so we could go out for our 8th anniversary dinner. ILs will be keeping both kids overnight on 6/20 since we have a wedding. DD will be 7 weeks.

  • We went to dinner when dd was 4 months. And I was anxious the whole time. Mommy alert went into over drive right before we ordered dessert, and not two minutes later, my phone rang and it was my mother saying that she couldn't get the baby to stop crying, so we skipped dessert.

  • DD was in daycare at 6w. But we didn't leave her in the evening until at least 9m. We don't have family around so whenever our parents came to visit we'd try to leave DD with them and go have a date (sometimes just lunch though). We didn't hire a babysitter until DD was 15m old and sleeping reliably through the night. Now if we go out we leave after she goes to bed for the night.

  • I think our first one was when DS was around 3 months old for DH's birthday. By then, I was back to work and had a pretty good freezer stash. My MIL watched him while we went to dinner and a movie.

We went out to dinner and a show for my birthday when my ds was 3ish weeks. I think my mom only had to feed him once, I nursed him right before we left. Overnight I think he was 6 months when we left him with my mil because I needed a break, so we booked a hotel downtown for a night, and we'd switched to formula by then.
