Cloth Diapering

losing absorbency?

Is it possible for Bum Genius 4.0 inserts to lose their absorbency over time?  My oldest has been in them for 2 years and recently the inserts are just drenched when I change either of my babies.  My youngest is a heavy wetter, but some days she soaks through her diaper in about an hour.  I had to sew new elastic in all the legs as those wore out over the past 2 years, but this seems to be specific to the liners.  I would appreciate any thoughts!

Re: losing absorbency?

  • I feel like I have heard of this before, but since I don't use MF inserts, I don't have any personal experience. Do you have any prefolds or natural inserts that you can use in the meantime?

  • Mf inserts lose absorbency over time. You can try to strip them to see if that helps though.

    Yep.

Personally I'd try stuffing with something else.  Or if you just super love your MF inserts, I bet you could find people on here practically willing to give them away (if you pay shipping) bc most people prefer other types of inserts.

  • Have you tried a hot water strip or soaking in washing soda or RLR to see if you've got any build-up?
