First Ultrasound

I had my first ultrasound today and I thought I was 7weeks and 1day today (the first day of my last period was March 30). During the ultrasound the doctor said I'm measuring 5weeks and 4days. I go back in a week for another ultrasound... Just weird that there is that much of a difference! Anyone else have this experience?

What did your doctor say? You could have just ovulated late.

That's all my doctor said. She told me that I could've ovulated later than I thought. When I was in the doctors office they told me I was 7 weeks and 1 day according to my last period and they wanted me back next week for an ultrasound. Now that the ultrasound measured me at 5 weeks and 4 days they still wanted me to come back next week. Just confused... A lot of my pregnant friends or moms say doctors really should wait until you're 8 weeks to call you in because if you come in any earlier, it will just get stressed out for no reason thinking something is wrong when you are really just early. I'm just so confused!

Well, it could mean a couple different things. It's hard to wait but I guess you don't have much choice.

I know you are stressed right now but trust your doctor.  If you don't trust your doctor, then you should look into finding another one.  It does not matter what your friends say - they are not your doctor.  

That being said, if you weren't temping, you don't know for sure when you O'd and therefore, you don't know for sure how far along you are.  It is very possible that you ovulated later in your cycle and therefore you are earlier than you think.

Today you are pregnant.  Remember that.  Enjoy it.  Next week, you will go back and have another u/s and you will find out more information.  I know it is stressful and you want answers immediately and you want to read things on the internet and takes polls of your friends but trust your doctor and love your baby right now.

I agree with @peggels24 - If you don't trust your doctor, then it's time to find a new one.  As she said, without temping to confirm O you don't know when you ovulated, so it could have just been later in your cycle.  Yes, early u/s can be 2-3 days off, so you could be also be 6 weeks, but I doubt it would be off by a week.  All you can do is to try to relax and wait for your u/s next week.  Hopefully then you will see some good growth and a HB.

I agree with the other ladies, I actually ovulated 10 days later than the normal "two weeks after your period" or CD14.. so at this point my OB has me down as 6w 1d. Had I gone into an ultrasound now, I would only measure 4w 5d and probably see nothing.  ETA: My OB isn't even bringing me in for my first apt until 8w going by my LMP. 

So don't stress yet - and as the other ladies said, today you are pregnant and enjoy it!

All of this. My doctor's office called me and scheduled me an appointment for when I'm 8 weeks according to my LMP... but I know I ovulated on CD 22, not the mythical cd 16, lol.

I'm going through something very similar.  I went in for my first ultrasound at 6 weeks and 2 days since I had a miscarriage in October.  I was only measuring 5 weeks and 3 days and there was no fetal pole or heartbeat yet.  The ultrasound tech didn't seem concerned and said she'll see me soon.  The doctor came in and said everyone is so different early in pregnancy that it's hard to judge.  I was bawling and she told me I shouldn't be and that I should be cautiously optimistic.  Easier said than done!  I go on Tuesday the 27th again and I'll be 8 weeks and 1 day.  Fingers crossed for both of us that it was just too early and things will balance out!

I had my first ultrasound yesterday 5/22! I was for sure I was like 7 weeks and I was a week off! Baby was measuring 8 weeks so I miscounted something somewhere or ovulated way earlier than thought! Im due New Year's Day 2015!! Best wishes to you all on healthy pregnancies!!!

I also had my first US this week because I am bleeding. They did not do any measurements to tell me how far along I am according to the size of gestational sac. I am 6w6d using the first day of LMP. Your US looks pretty similar to mine and I am glad to see that! I was afraid that there was something wrong because I have heard others say they had a heartbeat around the 6w mark! Maybe your time line will line up better as you progress! Good luck!!

This was similar to my first ultrasound with DD. I have irregular cycles and my original "due date" ended up being off by a little more then a week. Now I have a beautiful 15 month old. Try not to stress
