I Beg of You!

image

Lurkers who have recently come out and started posting more...

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE change your Avatars to something more personal.  It's already difficult to learn who everybody new is, and the majority of you have the generic bump Avatars.

We've been getting to know each other for 6 months+.  We recognize each other by a personal avatar and siggy.  There's obviously been an influx of newer posters as we're nearing the end of our pregnancies, and honestly, my head hurts trying to figure out who everyone is.  PLEASE make your avatar and siggy more personal so that we can start to feel like a community during these last few months.

Honestly...I just did the profile pic recently.  I had no idea this was a thing!  Sorry Rannndi!
Yours was kind of okay though because it was a chick in lotus pose or something. And your name's Yogini, which would make sense. PLUS you're pretty active anyhow. It's hard when someone's name is blahblah836828 and they have one of the same 3 generic icons.
Right!  @yoginikiki, yours was actually a different looking one, somehow.  I knew who you were because you were active with us for a while! :)

Phew!  :)  I am all about knowing who people are!  I'll get the hang of this by the time the second kid comes around!
TOTALLY not you at all that I'm talking about!  We know you ;)

I just looked at my ticker and, apparently, the kid is as big as a giant infected vagina today.

WTF vegetable IS that supposed to be?

    Cabbage?

LOL.  I have no idea how "recognizable" these things are to other people.  If it's helpful to change them, tell me.

You're good, girl! It's about personalizing versus an avatar and no siggy. You have both :)

  • I had a soft pretzel at the movies this weekend. It was everything I wanted it to be.
I'm jealous.  I love soft pretzels.  We're going to a 'gastro-pub' for happy hour next week and they have a fantastic pretzel/cheese fondue appetizer that I'd prefer to not share with DH.

  • I freaking LOVE how these threads ALWAYS turn to food.

I'm currently craving some Chicken Fried Rice for lunch.

Instead, I shall go down to the Mexican place down the street and gorge on queso and chips and salsa for lunch.  And not a single fuck shall be given about how disgusting that is.  Because it's tasty.

It seemed on track! The gif said soft pretzels! Reminded me of my awesome pretzel experience!

I can't have queso anymore, it gives me heartburn. :(
Yeah, I end up having some kind of gall bladder attack.

And today, I'm just willing and hungry enough to pay that price because...queso.

  • We'll, now I'm hungry.

Some perspective for those of you complaining about lurker so coming out of the woodwork: With my first, I was working three jobs during pregnancy. Round about this time, I started cutting back on the more physical and draining of the jobs, leaving me more time to actually post here. Once I had my DS, I had tons of time while I sat on the couch endlessly nursing to post stuff.

You can expect expect posting to pick up as more of us are put on bed rest, start maternity leave, cut back on extra jobs, or things like that. In my case now, DS is getting more independent with his play, so I'm currently camped out in the kitchen after cutting a bunch of strawberries to post. He's reading to himself and I'm encouraging it so he'll be okay during the endless nursing of baby 2.

Also, it's the internet. All my bump profile means is that I was able to supply a valid email. You still have no idea who I really am, even if things avatar is pretty consistent across lots of uh profiles on various forums and such. The June 2012 Facebook group blew up later into our pregnancies than this. Kind of makes me glad I didn't have time for Facebook until after DS came and I wasn't working at all anymore.

  • This reminds me! I ordered a cookie sundae from Chickfila (delicious by the way), but they did not give me a spoon!! I had to eat it with a straw. I wanted to cry a little bit, but I held it together.

Next time I'll stick to the milkshakes, those babies are delish!

First---you wouldn't walk up to complete strangers on the street and ask for support and then complain when they're not willing to offer it up to you immediately.

It's the same way here.  End of story.

Also, obviously it's the internet.  We don't KNOW anybody, but avatars and siggys make it helpful.  At least it's a familiar "face" that you've been talking with and experiencing this with.

Nothing is wrong with a newbie posting an intro and getting involved.

**Stuck in grey because I screwed up the quote on my iPad. Also, I clearly did not go back and correct the autocorrect enough on my previous post, sorry.

I totally understand the usefulness of customized avatars and sigs, even though I don't see sigs often since I'm mostly on my phone. And of course the spammy blog pimping is party crashing. But some of the replies were starting to sound like they didn't want anyone who hasn't been a part of in crowd from the beginning to start posting now, and I wanted to address that.

@YoginiKiki I haven't really had a lot of cravings, so I'm mostly using pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever  I feel like. Sadly, I don't really feel like eating much.

We've welcomed newbies within the last few weeks who introduced themselves and started participating appropriately. The issue is the people who show up, start panicking about something trivial (nursery colors, anyone?), and then get pissed when we don't care as much as they want us to / don't agree with them.
Yep, just a few days ago @nuclearcupcake posted an entire thread trying to get them to intro.  They all were welcomed kindly.

Yes. This. I don't mind newbies if they interact like normal human beings would in a normal social situation (introduce yourself, start contributing).. But the last week has been one annoying post after another. YOURE RUINING AUG 14!!!

I see. I guess I've just been skipping the more annoying threads. I didn't realize it was worse than the spammy read my blog ones. I'm also pretty bad at keeping up with intros. I'm never sure whether I count as recognizable or a lurker, so I always feel awkward when this stuff comes up.

Personally I would classify a Frosty as icecream. Others may disagree though.
I think this is also how Wendy's classifies it, seeing as how they didn't give me a straw - only spoons.
Frosty's are slightly melted soft serve in my opinion. They do not satisfy a milkshake craving for me. (This is the most important conversation I've been in all day.)
I hate all fast food 'milkshakes', none of them are real milkshakes, they're just melted soft serve.  Real milkshakes were ice cream in the very recent past.  I do enjoy Culver's shakes, however, but they were recently custard, so it's ok.
