Extremely Elevated HR and swelling

My heart rate has been in the 140-150's over the weekend.. at rest. I am waiting on a call back from the dr to see at what point do i need to become more concerned and possibly come in. My mom is already flipping out due to how high it is without me doing anything. Is anyone else having this issue? My bp has remained stable but every once in awhile i will catch it and it is high for me... my normal bp is below 110 and my heart is usually in the 70-80's.

Re: Extremely Elevated HR and swelling

  • thanks! my last monitor was 137/96 for bp and my hr was 110... mom is now officially worried.

  • I just heard from them, they want me to come in so I have an apt at 3. I am now extremely nervous!
  • That's what I was thinking. It doesn't hurt to get checked out. If you don't want to go in, maybe call your ob office back with the latest numbers and see if they get back to you any quicker. If they don't, you will at least feel more comfortable waiting.

I had 140s/100 on Friday and they put me on bed rest for the weekend and have me a strict diet to abide by. I'm at the midwife office now for a follow up and it's still high. No clue what they're going to recommend but I'm right there with you girl! Fx for a favorable outcome!

  • @njbabymama I have a blood pressure machine due to my brain disorder and POTS. I have very low bp and it is very unstable so I have to monitor myself. I used to have to check my bp 3 times a day in 3 different positions - laying, standing and sitting. A normal persons heart rate drops and bp raises... mine does the opposite. So my mom is thinking this is a chiari issue but since it is a rare disorder, there is not much about a chiari pregnant lady.. so I guess that is why the dr's are concerned as well. I am going in at 3 and so far my hr has stabilized around 103 and that is after drinking loads of water, propping my feet up and trying to relax while at work.

@cdk211 they mentioned compression socks to me a few months ago when they noticed my bp was dropping and I was getting extremely dizzy in the morning but i never got them.
  • Hope everything check out OK at the dr!

Also, how do you know what your HR/BP is at home?

To get your heart rate you just need a stop watch (or a smartphone with a timer) and know how to take your pulse (wrist is the easiest place).  You count how many heartbeats you feel within 30 seconds, and double that number to get your beats per minute heart rate (or you can continue to count for the full minute).

As for getting your BP, walgreens/cvs/target usually have a machine you can stick your arm into over by their pharmacy.  I take mine with a BP cuff/stethoscope left over from my EMT days.

I'm glad you went in. Keep resting! It'll do wonders! And how the hell are you still doing Zumba?! image

haha I get that a lot, I was teaching 4 classes a week up until last week and had planned to continue til end of may. Unfortunately, my hr isn't stable so I had to sub out my last 2 classes. Although I have been teaching for awhile, I still had to modify for pregnancy but the doctors cleared me and told me it was a great thing to continue.
  • I went in for this at 31 weeks (am now 34.5 weeks) and ended up needing a blood transfusion immediately and then iron infusions weekly after that. They did say you can develop tachycardia in pregnancy for no serious reason. I would get it checked out just in case.
  • Hope everything turns out ok!

  • I am having the same problem! I just went for my 37 week appt and my OB is now sending me to the hospital for more blood work. My HR was 98/144 but luckily they didn't find any protein in my urine. Just to be on the safe side, my OB wants to run some blood test to make sure I am not developing preeclampsia. She said the hospital will keep me until they get the blood results back. I am supposed to have a consultation with two potential pediatricians this afternoon. I guess I have to cancel now....
  • When my heart rate was elevated it was due to low hemoglobin. It was around 120-130 resting. High heart rate can also signal dehydration.
