Babies on the Brain

Intro & TTC & Q?

Hi Ladies!

I'm new to the bump so I was going to post a little about myself. My husband and I got married June 2012. He is a computer programmer and I'm a registered nurse who works as needed. We are from WV and just bought a house last October. We decided we are going to TTC in July. We are planning a babymoon cruise that i'm soooo excited for! We already have three furbabies ( two cats and a dog).

I do have a question for you ladies:  So, I'm not pregnant yet, did you guys interview a lot of OBs? what kind of questions did you ask? I'm just not sure what all to do to begin.

I look forward to talking with you ladies.

Re: Intro & TTC & Q?

  • Hi -- welcome and good luck.

I personally didn't interview any OBs. My gynecologist is also an OB and deliveres babies, so I stuck with her.  She's also been my OB/ GYN for the last 17 years (since I was 17)-- so no help there.  I would think though that you could google a list of FAQs for a new OB/ GYN.

    Hello and welcome!

My gyno is also an OB so I will probably stick with her (though I may decide on a midwife, haven't decided). If you just scroll down this page and the next, the question "what should I ask my doctor" has been asked three times, so lurk a bit and just read those.

Since you are new, I also recommend that you read the Newbie Blog (go to the "Trying to Get Pregnant" board, and it's at the top).

  • I didn't interview any Gyn/OBs, but when I moved to a new area, I got recommendations from coworkers about doctors they liked and chose one from there.  She's a gyno as well as OB, so I've been going to her for about a year and like her a lot and plan on sticking with her!

  • Welcome!  I'm from WV too!  If you're comfortable with your OB, then I'd just stay there.  I'd also start thinking about the kind of birth you would like to have and see if your current OB has some of the same philosophies.

    Good luck!
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...
Mom to Carter (6), and Calianne (1).
Proud VBAC, natural birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering momma!

  • Finding the right OB is hard. I went through many OB's before I found one who made me feel comfortable and was willing to do whatever it took to help me have a child. (I am turning 40 soon)
If you have the same beliefs about getting pregnant and the whole process, stick with the doc. I asked many friends for referrals. Good luck!!!

Honestly, I'll be looking for a midwife not an OB. OB's are great but they are trained (as surgeons) to deal with abnormal and/or high risk births.

Hi and welcome! Like PPs have said my Gyno is an ob so I just stuck with her. And she was great through my whole pregnancy, but when I went into labor she had surgerys the whole day and DD got delivered by a doctor I had met that day. While everything went smoothly it was very irritating at the time, so I would suggest going to a group facility so you can get to know all the ob's in the practice.

I am also going to be TTC #2 in July 2014 maybe we will be on the same BMB :)

Ask questions specific to you. Get to know your feelings on breast vs formula, natural birth vs epidural or c-section, cloth or disposable diapers, ect. Then make sure your ob knows and agrees with what you want. Also keep in mind that you can have a birth plan but things will most likely change during actual birth so be flexible.

Sorry that was so long but hope it helped.
