TTC after 35

I should have just POAS...

At 11dpiui I'm officially making myself crazy.  This weekend my breast were so incredibly tender still (mine always get swollen and tender during the week after ovulation and then it disappears a little less than a week before AF) that we became pretty convinced I was pregnant.  And then early this morning I made a bathroom trip and realized they weren't as tender.  So, then I was lying in bed trying to figure out if the light cramping I have is any different than what I've had since literally the day of IUI.  I was trying to resign myself to yet another failed cycle.  But, after I got up for awhile my breast started feeling tender again and I'm back to overanalyzing every symptom.

So, here's my question.  At 11dpiui, is it worth taking a hpt if its not fmu?  Or am I just setting myself up for a BFN that won't necessarily tell me anything?

In the alternative, does anyone have a ttc tranquilizer I can use to just put myself out of my misery for another day or two?  :)

Re: I should have just POAS...

  • There are a lot of ladies on the board who POAS at 10DPO so I do not see why you can't test to at least get a little relief or reassurance, and then test again in a few days. I'd rather waste a test than to drive myself crazy with the "what ifs".

Average implantation day is 9 dpo so technically you can get faint line 11 dpo...see how I rationalize this for us poas crazy ladies? Lol....so pee to your hearts content:) hahaha...can't think of a tranquilizer sorry:p

Symptoms are the worst way to try and figure out if you are pregnant....especially on a medicated cycle...

    Take a test...

    HPT accuracy DPO
    10 dpo : 35%
    11 dpo : 51%
    12 dpo : 62%
    13 dpo : 68%
    14 dpo : 74%
    15 dpo : 80%
    16 dpo : 88%
    17 dpo : 92%
    18 dpo : 99%

@ksgsmu‌ - Thanks. I did have those stats, but I'm not clear if that's only FMU or any time. I wish I had just tested when I got up this morning. Since I'm making myself crazy, I'm thinking I'll do a hold and then test. I can always test again tomorrow morning to confirm.

I just wanted to say hang in there and (hugs).   I know the 2WW is the worst and the POAS urge is horrible.  It's not the POAS so much that is scary, but the let down when the BFN shows up.  Is there any mindless trainwreck tv shows you can watch?  Or maybe a good movie?  I would wait for FMU this early, but I don't see how holding it in for 6 hrs would be any different than FMU so that seems like a good plan too.

  • I'm an avid POASer... so that is what I would do but knowing results are more accurate the longer you wait might mean more to you.  Ts and Ps for a very dark + when you do test!
  • Pee, pee, pee!!! Then again, I'm a POASholic LOL.

I usually test out my trigger, and start looking for a real + at 10DPO (I got a BFP with my second prenancy at 9DPO).
I guess I don't like the waiting...a negative is a negative be it at 10DPO or when AF shows, I would rather not keep my hopes up all the way until AF and just get it over with. If it ever happens to be a false - fine by me...the real BFP will show eventually. I would rather a false - than to keep having false hope. But that is probably just me LOL. Good luck!

  • Hugs.  I don't think there is a painless way to get through the 2WW.  If not testing is driving you crazy, you might as well test--and know that even if it's negative early on you're still in the running.

FX for you whatever you do!

  • I'm in the minority and say just wait for AF or your betas. For me, seeing a bfn breaks my heart. I never test until AF is late. But if the waiting is more of a torture than seeing a possible negative because it's too early than hold your pee and go for it.

I'm also a peeaholic so no help there because I'll always choose to test over not testing, but in my experience FMU hasn't made much of a difference when I got a BFP either. I tend to always get my strongest bfp with second morning bathroom trip so I don't think FMU applies to everyone.

    Good luck!!!

Thanks for the advice, everybody.  By yesterday afternoon, I knew I wasn't pregnant.  (My body gives me very clear messages.)  But, I took the HPT this morning with fmu to confirm.  BFN.  I am so disappointed.  I started out without high hopes for yet another IUI, but this weekend's progesterone surge really had me thinking it might be lucky #4.

I talked to my husband last night and this morning, and I think we're done with IUIs.  We've had 4 since October, and the only month I got a BFP was the month we just tried naturally due to a large cyst.  I really hate how the Letrozole makes me feel, and our RE would only give us a couple more tries with it anyway.  Plus, the clock is ticking.

So, I think we're moving on.  I'm going to call the RE and ask them to start scheduling us for the prerequisites for IVF.  While we're doing that, we'll try with OPKs and timing (the only way we've ever gotten pregnant anyway) and give my body a break from the meds.

I wish I was as okay with all of this as I want to be.  But, I will be in the next few days.  Probably after AF arrives and some of these hormones start subsiding!
  • I'm sorry for the BFN, glad you sound hopeful for IVF plan!
  • I'm so sorry.  It's so hard to move on to the next level of intervention, and it does take some processing.  I think you have a solid plan, though.  Good thoughts to you, and best of luck!
