I went for my 1 hour glucose test and the results came back 18 over the normal (my doctor says 130 but I've read 140) so I had to go for the 3 hour one. When the doctors called with the results for that one only one of the levels was abnormal but they told me I didn't have gestational diabetes but they wanted me to see a nutritionist. I went and saw they nutritionist and they're treating me as if I have gestational diabetes and they told me I have to check my blood sugar 4 times a day. I honestly can't do that because I'm not a fan of needles or causing any pain intentionally to myself so all I have done is changed my diet and watching my carbs. The doctor wants me to get a 2 hour postprandial blood test to see if I actually have to check my blood sugar. Has anyone else had this happen and what did you have to do? I only have 2 more months left and I know they're going to go by super quick but is it really necessary to go through all of this if I was only slightly over the normal?
Re: Gestational diabetes testing abnormal results
Most places diagnose you based on just one abnormal result. My fasting was 3 points over. But, if this (diet and poking my finger with minimal pain 4 times a day) is what is best for my child, I will do it.
I have been testing since around 12 weeks plus giving myself shots 4 times everyday. You get the hell over it if it is what needs to be done.
It's also not that bad. It's not a needle, that's hangs out of you forever. It happens faster then a paper cut and stops hurting seconds later. I've taken the time to reiterate everything that has been said, because it's important in keeping your baby healthy, deliverable, and not have issues with insulin regulation once born. IT's important stuff. Also, if I guessed (and I have a decent understanding of food, digestion, and how this stuff works), I'd never have guessed my blood sugar level numbers. Things I thought were ok, have not been. Step up to the plate. You can do it, take one for your family.
I am GBS+ and know I will have to have an IV in my arm for 4+ hours during labor. Am I freaked out about it? Yes I am. Have I considered not having the antibiotics because of that fear? No, because it's what is best for my baby and I will do whatever I can to ensure her health.
Time to put on the big girl panties and get that sh*t done.
Do it for your baby, if not for yourself.
I had to test DD1 frequently when she was born and she didn't flinch or cry. If a newborn baby can handle it, so can you.
