How long did you need a stroller for?

Hello ladies, for those of you with older ones, I'm wondering how long you needed a stroller.  I'm not sure what to do & am looking for advice.  I don't think our current stroller will last much longer (bolts keeping popping out, the suspension seems to have disappeared, buttons are getting stuck when collapsing it, etc.).  My boys are almost 2 & are good walkers, but not good listeners (what toddler is...haha).  So going to the store & other places without a stroller probably isn't the best idea.  Buying a used one is an option, but am only interested in a few models.  Were any of you in a similar situation?  If so, what did you do?

  • We only used one until a bit after 2. And my kids are a bit wild. We just do holding hands (and when they were smaller the leash backpacks).

  • I used my stroller until my boys were 3- then they both wanted to walk. I suggest start working on walking- one at a time.  I did this and it seemed to work.  I sold my stroller at my club's resale, when my guys were 3.5.

My older boys are almost 4 and 2. I can get away w.out having a stroller sometimes w. the oldest, but there are times he just gets tired of walking and wants to sit, so glad I have the stroller for him still. I think next year will be when he is mostly out of it and using his bike or walking. He can go short distances on his bike now, but gets tired and tries to get me to carry it so he can walk...ugh

  • I'd recommend getting another one. My oldest DD is almost 4 and just in the last 6 months has she not been using a stroller.

  • Thanks for all the input ladies!  My gut tells me to get another one.  I'm going to shop around & hope a good deal comes along.  We don't need it right away, so I have some time.  As far as hand holding goes, one of my boys is really good with it, & the other isn't.  He's the type that will drop to his knees/lie on the ground/turns into a dead weight in rebellion. Then we have to pick him up & carry him kicking & screaming.  He doesn't get it yet.

  • My guys are younger than your's, but I'm damn well going to use a stroller until they are probably 3 or 4 LOL there are plenty of places where I will not be ready to have them out and about without a stroller given that there are two of them... what if I have to go do something and one of them isn't feeling well or needs a nap?? With my singletons I might have just carried them if they were feeling off or tired... but with two? I can't imagine trying to carry a sick/tired one while trying to supervise the other... not to mention what happens if both of them are losing it LOL

I'm so glad you posted this. I am trying to make this decision myself. Out umbrella stroller is too small and our good one is missing a canopy.

I stopped using mine around 3, except for long trips like the zoo. Even there I usually use the wagon instead of the stroller.

My twins are still babies, but DD1 is 5.5. We used a stroller with her until she was 4. And that was only because we had to wean her off it since the twins were coming. She'd still be in a stroller if we let her! Lol. So, another stroller is most definitely worth the investment. Try finding one on consignment, or just a basic umbrella stroller.
