Pregnant after a Loss

Return to Zero - anybody watch?

I dvr'd it, but caught pieces as I was cooking. Then watched it completely this morning since I woke up at 4:30AM.

There were a few scenes, more towards the end that really had me crying.

I know things aren't exact, but I wanted to stab the husband. I wanted more emotion for her from him.

After watching this, I'm so thankful for dh. On my bad days, even if he wasn't grieving, or if I would try to anger him so he'd leave me alone, he refused to let me make him angry or let me be alone all day. He'd often come lay next to me and hold me for 30mins or so.

IMO there could have been more to it, but overall the message is perfect & a big thanks to them for helping break the silence.

    (((Hugs))) @aragosta‌ That's completely understandable.

Just know I thought it was well-intended and they did cover a lot of things that happen, including events/holidays, how people act and the ridiculous/no-help advice people try to offer. Was it perfect, no. But I'm glad it was made and aired.

I agree that there could have been more to it.I was surprised to not see much difficulty in interacting with her pregnant friend

I, too, was thankful for my dh but did think that the husband in the movie was ok. i think it showed differences in grieving and the difficulty communicating about grief

Not to make light of the seriousness but one of my favorite parts was when the husband gave the trick or treaters rocks

Yes! To the bolded. IMO. They didn't really portray how hard baby-related anything can be afterwards. I mean she even holds the baby and doesn't flip out. And she appears ok-ish at the shower until the lady starts talking to her about God's plan.

And for the friend, she seems awesome. I don't know how true for most this is either. Esp from being on the AL boards, most people's feelings aren't taken into consideration.

The friend did seem great. But then also balanced with some insensitivity when she asked the main character to hold her baby, so kind of realistic of a real life great friend

  • I was interested and then found myself bawling at just the trailer for it... and I'm not a big crier.  The loss just hits too close to home for me right now.  One day when I'm feeling up for a good cry, I'm sure I'll watch it.  I'm a sucker like that.

DH and I watched it together last night. Today is our Izzie's 1st birthday/angelversary, so we knew we'd be emotional this weekend anyway. Though DH and I couldn't relate to the marital problems the main characters experienced, they definitely nailed a lot of the grief experience. I think they did a great job of portraying the birth scene and really appreciate them being so honest in the emotions. I also agree that I was surprised with the ease she accepted her friends baby. I just chalke it up to everyone havig a different reaction. Definitely not perfect, but overall, I am glad there was a movie aired that addresses the issues of baby loss.

  • I watched it, I thought it was good.  Not everything mirrored my experience (for instance the marital troubles) but everyone's experience is going to be a little different from others.

Lots of people have commented on her acceptance of her best friend's baby.  Keep in mind this was based on the real events of the director and his wife, so more than likely that was her experience with her friend.  This movie was written by a couple who went through it, so nothing is really unrealistic, just her experience of it that may differ from others.

I had my first loss at 4 weeks when my best friend was 7 months pregnant with her second and I threw her a small baby shower just a month after my loss.  It was a little hard, but I love her and wanted to do it.  My second loss was a year later at 22 weeks and being around her and her kids actually helped me.  I am certain being around pregnancy/kids with anyone else would have been difficult, but she was one of the people I wanted around most and her kids made me happy.  Now granted they're both boys and my angel was a girl...not sure I could have handled it as well had she had any girls.  So maybe the directors wife had a similar relationship with her best friend where it just didn't bother her as much.

Just an FYI, the title of the movie is Return to Zero (no ground) just in case anyone is having troubles searching for it :)

I just started watching it so I'm only about an hour into it.  I've cried and laughed.  The part about Jesus' plan had me bawling, saying that it was his plan to experience such  an unfathomable loss and lose faith.  But I really feel like a sucker for pain watching this.

I watched it this morning and cried quite a bit.  I couldn't relate to their experience exactly but I agree that the grieving was very raw and real.  I appreciate that that is someone's story and that everyone's story will be different.  I definitely felt like I was glutton for punishment while watching.  Overall I really liked the movie though.

  • I watched it last night and cried my eyes out.  My loss was very early, so I can't relate on that level, but I was so broken hearted for both of them.  I love what her new doc told her about how there is life after stillbirth.  Very beautiful movie, well put together, and very well acted.

As far as the husband goes, I can see that he was grieving in his own way, and as much as he didn't open up to her and support her, she didn't open up to him or support him, and that's what caused the rift.
