1st Trimester

8 weeks and showing!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am 8weeks today and I am starting to show. I spent the morning cleaning out the closet leaving only the clothes that fit, which was about 10% of my entire wardrobe.

When I came into work, my coworkers all commented on my little bump .

I am finding that I am a little embarrassed that I am showing so early, like something is wrong with me.  I don't understand why I feel this way...being pregnant is a gift and I feel so blessed, yet I am a little uncomfortable with how much I am already showing so early.  I feel like I am doing something wrong and that this isn't normal.

I am not a big person, about a size 4 prior to pregnancy.  Maybe its more noticeable when you start off small?  Yet I see so many tiny women who dont' start showing until they are like 30 weeks pregnant.

Can anyone else relate?

  • I think it just depends on your frame/body shape. Like PPs have said, it's mostly bloat right now, but I have noticed women with smaller hips/shorter torsos tend to start showing a "bump" earlier because all the extra water weight has nowhere to go. Don't stress about this, because your body is going to be changing in a lot of ways throughout your pregnancy. Just enjoy it and use it as an excuse to buy some cute new maternity clothes.

Gas X really helps with the bloating, at least it does for me. There's no need to nix any of your wardrobe or clean it out - chances are, you'll fit your shirts for a while once the bloating goes down.

After the initial bloat was gone with my 1st pregnancy (and this one for that matter), I returned to being comfortable with wearing my shorts, tshirts and even jeans. I'm a size two, I don't think that smaller girls 'show' earlier per se, it's just the bloat can be more evident.

The true test is when you're reaching down to pick something up, and if you touch the lower part (below your belly button) if it's hard or at least not as 'squishy' then that's the baby bump, basically. I noticed that my last pregnancy. Unless you have rock-hard abs lol but I didn't. I was 16 weeks along with my daughter when I was reaching to get my shoes or fix the bottom of my jeans or something, and I remember brushing my hand against my lower ab and thinking 'wow, it's really there!'

Thank you so much for the reply....it was very helpful.  Oh, and I LOVE Gas X!  I keep it in my purse at all times.

How long did it take for your bloating to go down in early pregnancy?  With the exception of a few days last week, mine has been here for all 8 weeks!    I tend to get severe bloating with my period too, so I know my body seems to be more prone to holding onto water when I have progesterone in my system.

My bloat depends on the time of day, regardless of whether I've eaten or not it seems. Both with my last pregnancy and this one, it gets worse as the day goes on, and by about 10pm I'm usually pretty miserable. I think that whole fun deal came to an end around week 16 for me last time, we'll see about this one.

  • I'm only 5 weeks and the bloat is awful! I was a size 0 before pregnancy, so I guess it's bc of my small size.

My bloat always turns right into a bump eventually. I am bleating/showing too at 9 weeks. But, 3rd child/7th pregnancy here.

  • I don't care if it's bloat or not. It's because of the baby and it makes you look pregnant! I don't know what it is, but I have looked pregnant really early every time. My first pregnancy, I waited until 13 weeks to tell at work but everyone knew. By my next pregnancies, I was obviously pregnant by about 8 weeks; definitely 10. I hate the snotty "it's bloat," b/c whatever it is, my clothes don't fit and random strangers are asking about "the baby."

  • It's definitely bloat. Your baby is about the size of a raspberry, that's it. That being said, I developed ovarian hyper stimulation thanks to fertility treatments, so I'm bloated beyond belief and already look several months pregnant. I agree that it can be embarrassing, especially when people ask when I'm due and put two and two together, but there's nothing I can do about it. I'm carrying twins anyway, so I figure I should just get used to being huge.

  • I agree-- its probably bloat.  Although with my fist I was teeny and felt like I got a belly right away.  Even with this pregnancy I cant stand to have pressure on my stomach so I got myself a pair of jeans and a pair of shorts so I can be more comfortable.  I say if your normal clothes aren't comfortable, go ahead and get a few cute pairs of maternity pants- they are stylish and you'll need them anyway :-)
  • Today was an interesting experience in bloating.  I started out the morning with a flat belly and I was like, "WOW! I look normal again!" and I have to admit, it was kind of nice.  Then by noon,I had a little pooch.  By 830pm, I look like I have swallowed a basketball, perhaps six months pregnant looking.  I wish I had measured my waist in the morning and then again in the evening to see the difference, but I am guessing it was at least a15" difference by the end of the day.  That's pretty significant!
  • oh also, i cannot seem to cut back on my sodium because all I crave is salty stuff these days!!!

I can't wrap my head around the level of butthurt in this comment.  But, FYI @NicoleWI in regards to the bolded, It's bloat.
  • I bloat/swell more as the day goes on - I can start out with my pants buttoned and by the time I leave work they are undone and sweat pants/yoga pants/elastic shorts go on as soon as I get home.  Realistically I know it's not obvious, but it feels that I have a bulge.  This is my first and I know I am excited to be noticeably pregnant so it could be some projected feelings of wanting it to be there.
  • I'm hardly an expert because this is my first pregnancy, but I'm 35 weeks along now and I have some advice that might be helpful:

I also bloated lots in the first trimester and packed away a bunch of my clothes because I thought I'd only get bigger.
But actually, between week 13 and 20 I went down a lot again because my bloat settled down and my bump hadn't really developed yet. So for about 2 months I was able to fit into lots of my normal clothes again.

So it's worth keeping your normal clothes within reach.
  • pregnancy bloating sucks! im bloated everyday & look 5 months pregnant LOL
I'm wearing clothes that hide it :)
