Almost 30wks and weird symptoms

I am almost 30wks and seem to be having some weird symptoms but when I talked to my OB he didn't really say anything about my concerns.  I am a little unhappy with my OB because even though I am seeing him weekly I have to talk with the student helping him first.  Then my OB comes in says we will put you on the monitor and sends me off.  I have been having menstrual like cramps (but not showing any contractions),  if I get a bruise or cut it seems to take forever to heal and my up close vision seems to be distorted I have difficult reading.  I thought the cramping was possibly do to gas moving something along those lines.  My blood pressure this week was 108/66 so its not high.  I do have GD and my fasting sugars have been above the limit (below 95 and mine is 108 to 115)  so he wants to put me on insulin (I thought was pretty quick to make that assumption). Not sure if this maybe all related or this is just me.  Getting so anxious for them to get here and my body to be mine again but I know they need to stay in as long as possible.  I have my next scan with MFM on the 29th.  Sorry for the long ramble but don't know who else to ask.

Re: Almost 30wks and weird symptoms

  • Sugar levels do affect vision. As for the cuts- can't say. The cramps are something I'm dealing w but I hate the fact that my ob dismisses them and doesn't seem concerned

  • Sugar levels can also effect healing rates.

I find drinking more water and resting really helps with the cramping.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks ladies figures it might have to do with my sugars but wasn't sure. Was having a frustrating day yesterday. I will bring it up with MFM next time I see them.

My MFM monitors my GD and med needs versus my OB...my OB checks my log sheets of sugars, and I let her know what the MFM says as I talk to them at least weekly regarding my levels and meds...and your fasting levels are high enough my MFM doc would want assistance in keeping it down...I am on glyburide but the next step is insulin... It is frustrating, I would definitely not be comfortable with anyone other than the OB, she actually stopped them from rotating me like they normally do so I always see her or the other doctor...no midwife etc. Hope you get answers for your concerns...

I'm sorry you're going through this. Like PPs said both the vision and healing time symptoms are things that can happen when sugar levels are elevated. To me it doesn't seem like a fast jump or assumption to put you on insulin if your fasting numbers are in that range, especially after mentioning the other symptoms. The general recommendation is to have fasting below 90, with occasional outliers up to 95ish being fine. If the fasting number consistently tests above that after altering diet it's almost always an immediate switch from diet control to meds, either glyburide or insulin. GD has a tendency to "worsen" as a pregnancy progresses (thank you hormones) so it's good to be proactive. Hopefully you feel better soon and have a better day today.

I think that maybe I will call my MFM and see what they say.  Thanks for all of the advice, I am in new territory with everything this time around.  So glad I have a place to vent / get advice.

  • I agree that some of your symptoms sound normal.  I'm a week or so ahead of you and have cramping too.  It usually comes if I'm up and around too much at the end of the day.  So, it gets better with water and if I relax.

My fasting numbers are supposed to be under 90, so I would be concerned with your numbers being so high.
