Hcg only 16 at 4 weeks

So I went to the dr to have my progesterone/hcg tested. (I take progesterone during ovulation due to high estrogen) They called me and said my hcg levels were 16. I am 4 weeks and I just found out Monday. I know people have mentioned that your levels have to be at least 25 to get a positive pregnancy test at home. Assuming they have dropped since Monday, I took a test and it came back negative. I am assuming that the bleeding will start soon. Has anyone else experienced this?

That's not true - pregnancy tests often pick up much lower levels than it claims on the package!

Please don't be discouraged just yet, it's not the number that matters, but whether it increases over time!

If you are testing negative now, Then that would be a chemical pregnancy (very early miscarriage) I'm sorry. I had one back in January. I had faint positive tests for 4-5 days and then they turned negative. I began bleeding 3 days after my tests were negative. My period was slightly heavier and longer than normal too.

My first number was pretty low (check my siggy), remember, it's the doubling time that matters. Are they retesting in a few days?

Thank you ladies for all of your replies! I am testing again on Monday. I have already accepted the fact that it's probably not going to progress. I am kind of on pins and needles. Part of me wants to hold on to hope, but I am trying to be realistic. Things aren't looking good. Not knowing what is going on in my body is probably the most frustrating thing! 

This is my first go at this....I just hope that I can have a baby eventually.

Honestly, if you got a positive pregnancy test on Monday and a beta of 16 on Thursday or Friday I'm sorry, but it doesn't look good.
