Trouble TTC

IUI was canceled..

So I had posted this in the infertility group, but was told maybe I should move to this group to relate to more women...

Hello I'm new to this page.. After trying to conceive for about 2 years my DH and I started seeing a RE.  It was thought that I might have PCOS, but after all the testing, I do not.  DH SA is wonderful... besides his morphology is 3%, but RE is not concerned about that at all because his other numbers were great.  The main issue we are looking at is that fact that I dont ovulate on a regular basis, so I have longer cycles (about 45 days) SO after all the initial testing RE suggested Femara 5 mg CD 4-8, Pregynl trigger, and IUI. . . WELL I went in for my CD 13 scan and had one 12 mm follie on my right side, and three smaller ones on my left side my cervix lining was only 6.  I was not ready at this point.  Went back three days later CD 16, I now had nothing on my left side and a 9 mm on the right side and my lining went down to a 5.3.  Now my IUI has been canceled. RE does not think I will ovulate this month (nor do I) I have a day 21 progesterone level and depending on the results will start provera to induce period and we are looking to start Injections and do IUI.
I am bummed.
If all my labs are normal why are my ovaries being so dang lazy!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me (28) anovulation
DH (34) 3% morphology
TTC #1 for over 2 years
Medicated cycle #1: May- femara 5mg CD 4-8/no response/IUI canceled
Medication cycle #2: June-
Gonal-f / Pregnyl trigger/ IUI #1 6/16-BFN
Medicated cycle #3: Gonal-f/trigger/ IUI #2 7/15- BFP!!! Beta #1 14.4

Re: IUI was canceled..

  • First of all, I'm so sorry!! That must be incredibly frustrating. I know I would probably break down.

A question you might want to ask your RE (either now or if you cycle again) is about stairstepping (or my RE calls it "add back"). That is where you take an additional round of medication in the same cycle if you aren't responding. I have had to do it with both of my Clomid cycles so far. It keeps you from having to cancel your entire cycle. I've never taken Femara, so I don't know if it works the same way, but it might!
    **siggy warning**  **everyone welcome**

I'm sorry your cycle was canceled. Welcome and Good Luck!
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • Welcome! I know canceled cycles are so frustrating and disappointing. :( Hope they find what works for you for the next cycle!

    Me: 32  DH: 33  Married: March 2004

    July 2006: started TTC
2008: HSG (normal), couple rounds of clomid through gyno
2008 - 2010: dragging my feet out of fear and procrastination
October 2010: first consultation with RE, dx PCOS and fibroids (DH slightly low count/motility)
Oct. 2010 - Dec. 2012:  In DENIAL! avoided the issue because I was scared of surgery
January 2013: returned to RE, fibroids grew significantly
February 2013: second HSG, fibroids pushed on tubes which blocked them somewhat
March 2013: MRI to determine what type of surgery may be necessary

July 29, 2013: fibroids (5) removed via robotic laparascopy
August 2013 - Nov 2013 : benched due to recent surgery

    IUI #1, Dec. 24, 2013, BFN
    IUI #2, Jan. 25, 2014, BFN
    IUI #3, Feb. 25, 2014  BFN
IUI #4 canceled due to lack of response to letrozole
    IUI #4.1 April 28, 2014, BFN

May 16, 2014: wtf consult, start prepping for IVF in June and add injects for one last IUI in the meantime
IUI #5 started letrozole and bravelle but canceled after HSG led to new diagnosis

May 21, 2014: third HSG, tubes blocked, one at the beginning, one hydrosalpinx??
June 11, 2014: consult, approved to move on to IVF because the hydro is not completely blocked therefore allowing fluid to move through slowly rather than backwards
    IVF #1 August 8, 2014 - 3dt of 2 embryos, BFN
September 17, 2014 - 4th HSG, the right tube is very patent (open!!) dye went straight through this time. Weird!
    October 2, 2014 - started metformin treatment
    November 14, 2014 - blood work, brought A1C down from 5.8 to 5.5

November 26, 2014 - RE finally back from vaca and reviewed my chart, no more IVFs for rest of calendar year
December 1, 2014 - Right after Thanksgiving, I called a new clinic and got in right away! Plan for IVF
    December 17, 2014 - ER! 29 retrieved (!!), 16 mature, all 16 fertilized (ICSI)

    IVF #2 December 20, 2014 - 3dt of 3 embryos, BFN

We are done with treatment unsuccessfully. :(

  • I'm so sorry, that's really frustrating! I'm wondering, could Femara be a culprit in the thinning lining? I've been reading that Femara is a good choice to prevent the thinned lining effect of Clomid!! So unfair. :(

Welcome, I'm sure you'll find plenty of support here on the icky wait to the next cycle.

  • I kinda already did ask, and the nurse said we need to wait until next Wednesday for my progesterone level results...
My cycles are usually around 45 days so I was relieved when she told me that depending on what my progesterone level is I can start provera to induce my period and I won't have to wait till AF decides to show up...

  • I don't think femara caused it... Up until this point we were "unexplained infertility" and now I obviously know I'm not always ovulating. I know I do sometimes because I get positive Opks ...
