Toddlers: 24 Months+

eyesight?

hi all, so i'm worried that dd (26 months) may have some eyesight problems.  i've put in a call to her pedi today and hopefully can get some answers/an eye doctor recommendation.  let me start off by saying that she seems to have great eyesight...she can spot things far away (like an airplane high in the sky), she picks up tiny little crumbs, and she can find her hair rubberbands in the dark.  but when she watches tv, she turns her head to the right so she's looking out of her left eye.  at first i didn't think anything of it b/c she'd turn her head both ways, but recently she started to turn mainly to the right to look out of her right eye.  does anybody have any insight on toddler vision/glasses? thanks so much!

Re: eyesight?

  • Can't you just make an appt for an eye dr?  My DD is 3 in January and we took her to Vision One for a routine eye exam.  And then we did a follow up at a pediatric ophthalmologist.  She was recently diagnosed with amblyopia which basically means her vision is significantly different from one eye to the next.  She doesn't have a problem seeing things because her vision in her right eye is fine.  But her left eye has very poor vision on it's own.  We are working on correcting that.

I wouldn't worry too much until you speak to an optometrist.  You will probably need a referral for a pediatric ophthalmologist but not a regular optometrist (I did).  It could be nothing or it could be an issue.   good luck.

  • so i took dd to a pediatric ophthamologist (sp?) and she said that dd has a teensy bit of near-sightedness in her right eye, but nothing to worry about.  whew!  thanks for your response!
