solid food advice...

So we started to try and give Zaiden rice cereal the past week. He's been so interested in our food the past month, watching us while we eat and reaching for our food etc but he hates it. As soon as you take the spoon out of his mouth he cries and reaches for it again. He seems to want to keep the spoon in his mouth all the time like he's expecting a constant feeding like the bottle and its frustrating him. Does anyone have any tricks from when your LO started eating? Or do you think he's not ready? Any advice would be appreciated. TIA ladies ETA: He's just about 21 weeks

I don't have any experience with spoon feeding but Baby Boots gets frustrated when he's trying to eat. Usually he starts out strong but after 15-20 minutes he starts getting crabby and banging his fists or throwing things and that's when I figure he's had enough so we quit and wait until the next time. I assume it just takes time and patience before they learn what they're supposed to do.

Thanks ladies I know I need to have more patience with it. I just tried again and I fed him some of his bottle first and that helped.. He wasn't as frantic.

Have you tried other foods yet? He may not like the taste. DS is 11 months and still doesn't care for cereal. I have to get tricky and mix fruit in with it lol

I haven't tried anything else yet. My pedi doesn't recommend anything before 6 mos, but I think that is ridiculous, so I thought I'd try some cereal first. Maybe I'll give him something else to try and see if that goes better.

Well I certainly don't want to tell you not to listen to your pedi.  I know we tried sweet potatoes with P first (he was just over 4 months old) and he liked them.  I'm sure you'll figure it out

She didn't say we shouldn't, she just said they don't recommend. My sister has the same pedi (her daughter is 21mos) and she told her they could start in 4th month. I guess they keep changing the age.

I started my boys with rice cereal in their bottles. I would give them rice cereal in their milk just before we had dinner at 5 1/2 months. Now we are giving them a small jar of baby food and a 4oz bottle at dinner time. Our pediatrician recommended veggies first then fruits. We are trying a different food each week. So far so good. Maybe you can try one of the 1st stage foods. I also found this which has helped me with food choices. https://www.designedtonourish.com/recipes/stage-1-2/ I also have one boy who needs a few sips of his bottle before we feed him. If we try and feed him food first he is too hungry and gets frustrated easy. Good luck, I hope you find some thing Z likes.

Thank you @KGS2003‌ , That is a great link! I started giving Zaiden some of his bottle first and it helped! He actually is enjoying the cereal now

With the cereal, I try to feed it to him as quickly as I can because he was frustrated not having a constant flow of food. I also give it as a snack between bottles so he is hungry for it, but not starving. He liked the veggies, but ended up with wicked gas pains one night so I backed off and I'm slowly easing him into to veggies again before I introduce fruit this week. He pushes his tongue out a lot as he learns how to use it to eat. Gripe water is an amazing product for gas if you have not tried it.

We started feeding L at 4 months because of her severe reflux.  When they are under 1 food is just for fun.  I would say to feed him a full bottle (or BF) and then feed him solids.  That we he is not too hungry and won't be so "demanding" for nourishment.

@Wifey xo we have used gripe water. It's awesome @chloebeth930‌ We started giving him a bottle first and it helped big time! He had his first veggie today, sweet potatoes and he LOVED it!
