Baby Names

Henry?

I have narrowed down our list to two names, one being Henry. Henry is the most likely contender since DH isn't a big fan of the other name. My only hesitation with Henry is that while I think its a great name for a boy and a middle-age man but I don't know how well the name fits the teenager and young adult stage. What do you think? TIA for your input. I have posted a few times before and you all have been really helpful!

Re: Henry?

  • Ten years ago I couldn't have imagined Henry on a little boy, and now it's common and seems perfectly fitting. I think that will naturally evolve to include young adult Henrys as this cohort grows up. I think it's a great name.
  • Right now, Henry is my favorite boy name.  I think it's absolutely perfect for any stage!

I think Henry works for every stage of life. Awesome choice.
  • Henry will age well with your LO. I think you might be surprised by how many Henry's, Oscar's, Harvey's, Victor's etc. there may be when your son in a teen.

  • Henry is wonderful. It works for any stage, perhaps as a teen he may prefer a nn (Hank, Harry).

  • I think it wears well at all ages. I know a couple pre-teen/teen Henrys now and it seems to be working for them.

I think Henry is a fine name.  When he's a teenager if he doesn't like it, he will choose to go by something else to his friends.  Or, more likely his friends will choose something else to call him.  Both my brothers have names my parents thought were immune to nicknames, and yet both got called by nicknames as teenagers by their friends.  And their friends based the nicknames on our last name.  His friends will call him what they want, it may be Henry, but it might just as well be Red, Grover, Slick, or Snuffy.  I wouldn't stress over it.

It's not my personal style, but I feel it's a total classic and a respectable choice.
  • I'm the odd one out, I don't like the name but it is fine and not absurd like most names you see these days.
