Tips for pumping at work?

So I'll be heading back in a couple of weeks and wondered if anyone had some good tips?

I bought enough bottles to last the week so I only have to clean on the weekend. Should I buy all the pump parts and just haul the pump back and forth? Did anyone buy an extra pump one for work one for home? I know we have some master pumpers on here so please share your ideas for making things as convenient as possible!
TIA!

  • I bring my pump to and from work daily. It isn't too much of a hassle. Make sure to have a ice pack or insulated lunch box for milk. I pump in a private bathroom then put my milk in the fridge in my lunch box to take home at the end of the day. I bring 2 bottles for my pump sessions. Good luck. I watch tv while i pump on my phone.

  • I have a medela advanced that I bring back and forth. Not too much of a pita, just an extra bag to carry. I have two sets of pump parts and only enough bottles for a day, so I wash and sanitize every evening. I bought some cheapy gallon ziplock bags to leave at work for storing my pump parts in the refrigerator between pumping. How man storage bottles you bring will completely depend on your output. I bring the two 5oz bottles I pump into, a 9oz bottle to store, and an extra 5oz just in case. I wear normal bras that snap in the front for easy access and I actually bought one of the medela pumping "bras" it just wraps around and zips in the front so it's super convenient. Depending on your response to the pump, you might want to make sure you have pictures/videos of your LO on your phone to look at while pumping.

    Good luck!!
  • Oh, yeah that sounds gross...I meant more that I wouldn't have to do them for the next day...I can just have the nanny wash during the day.

  • I only have one set of everything. It's not that big of a deal to clean it every night- it simply just became part of my nightly routine after a few days.

I have a bag for carrying everything included the pump back and forth. Makes it easier not to forger anything. Again no biggie!

I plan on leaving my pump at work and just having a manual at home. I have a private office that locks so I'm not concerned about possible theft...

I have three full sets of pump parts and two days worth of bottles but I do plan to wash every day as it can build up fast!

If your like me and just want to see your LO you might want to set an alarm for when you get off work to remember to grab your milk from the fridge.

  • This is one question where I actually found the search function to be helpful. I bookmarked a couple posts from various boards, with lots of good suggestions. I haven't gone back to work yet, so I don't have any good advice to share. I do plan to carry back and forth, and storing the pump parts in the fridge seems like a common practice.
