First off, hi. I am a semi-luker who has been slowly emerging from lurkerdorm since that post a month or so ago that pulled many of us out of hiding. Brief background, I am a FTM from New England and my little guy was born 2/8/14.
I haven't run since shortly after my BFP (was too nervous after being put on pelvic rest until 12 weeks). Anyway, it was a big part of my life and I'm hoping to get back to it soon. A few friends mentioned that it is not safe to use a jogging stroller until after the baby is 4 months. The manual on my BOB, however, said 8 months. This seems like a big discrepancy, so I was just curious what others have been told. I plan on asking my pediatrician when we go for LO's 4 month appointment in June (and obviously won't be bringing him on any runs before then, anyway).
Re: Jogging strollers
Good post! Finally, a lurker who starts a good thread and not a stupid one
I run with my kids in a double bob, Lo in the car seat attachment. DS1 was going for runs with me using the car seat attachment starting at 6 weeks. IMO do what you are comfortable with- I only run on smooth pavement or sidewalks and quite frankly am not running much faster than a brisk walk! I can see Lo since he is facing me and he is not jostling around in the seat and is strapped in tight so I feel ok about it. I would not run with him in just the seat at this point- I have put him in for quick walks and he is pretty small for the seat and doesn't look comfortable. I'll probably wait until he is 8 months for that.
@bribbon - I wouldn't panic. It sounds like what you are doing is just fine. I wouldn't have had any idea of any limitations until my friends mentioned it-- never would have crossed my mind!
