Safe cords?

M's new toy has been cords lately. Like any kind of cord: blinds, ear buds, charging cords...anything.

I wish I knew of a safe, similiar alternative. DH thought he was being funny when he said, "oh don't worry if he swallows that earbud. We can just pull it out by the cord." Thanks asshat.

I am kinda tempted to get something akin to a dog chew toy, like a rope. But really anything like that would be a choking hazard I'd imagine. I have a ribbon he plays with, but it gets slobbery and bunches up, so I think that slobbery bunch of ribbon can get caught in his throat too.

Any ideas? Just keep him away from cords?

  • I have something like this that T chews on non stop. I took the key hook thing off on the end so she doesn't get that stuck in her mouth but other than that, it's kept her occupied for quite sometime.

His nephews got big plastic slinkies, e loved them. I am thinking those may be safe. Maybe he'd pinch his little hands in plastic curls, but it should'nt be too bad. I can't see how he can choke on a slinky.

Maybe a jump rope, if it's made of something safe to chew on?  There are also these rubber/plastic hair scrunchies that look like a circle of curly telephone cord, but I don't know what kind of plastic they are. https://invisibobble.com/

We let DS play with exercise bands. The kind that are like big elastic bands with handles.

  • Both of my kids love the sound of plastic bags. Still not handing one of those over.

We know someone IRL who died from cord strangulation.

What if you handed him a bunch of these linked together?

@BelhurstBride‌ someone mentioned putting the plastic bags in a pillow case, so they still crinkle. But I totally understand the not wanting too. I do have a lot of those plastic rings, I can always try that.

Sorry for your loss. That is horrible!
