We are going to be flying in next Saturday night and will spend all day Sunday in SF. I was trying to figure out what we could do. We won't have a car, and I wanted to get a day pass for the cable cars, but I see that limits where we can go. We were going to have lunch in chinatown and dinner at fishermans wharf. We're not really into alcatraz and I'd love to check out the golden gate bridge, but it looks like we might need to do a taxi or something because its a bit far? Also we wanted to see some live music and I wanted to know what your thoughts were of the gold dust lounge. https://golddustsf.com/entertainment
@MamaBear904 - You will definitely need a taxi, or possibly the cable car could get you from chinatown to fisherman's wharf okay. Haight Street is always a fun street to walk through. All sorts of "eclectic" people and shops in that area. There's also Golden Gate Park. And Mission Street where there is lots of shopping to be had. I have never heard of the gold dust lounge, so hopefully @URMyShunshine77 can give you some info on that. I hope you have a wonderful time. I love living in Northern California. I'm an hour north of San Francisco in Santa Rosa, but love to go down there for a day of sightseeing or shopping. I also get my tattoo work done at a shop on Haight Street.
Hi there! I have never been to the Gold Dust Lounge, but it looks fun. I love any place with live jazz.
Where are you staying? You can take a street train from Fisherman's Wharf to the Ferry Building. The Ferry Building has a lot of great shops and eateries, and they'll probably have a farmer's market on Sunday. I love eating brunch and looking at the Bay Bridge there. There is a also neat Claus Oldenburg statue of a bow and arrow right there. Chinatown and North Beach are cool neighborhoods that aren't far from Fisherman's Wharf. I know the cable cars are in those areas. North Beach is known for its Italian influence.
A taxi to GG Bridge could be expensive, but you could take an easy bus if you have time. It's supposed to take around 20 minutes. 511.org is the public transit Web site. You can enter the landmarks of Fisherman's Wharf and Golden Gate and then "Plan Trip." It shows several very easy options. Buses are $2 and exact fare is needed.
The weather has been beautiful here, so I would definitely recommend seeing the bridge. Let me know if you have any other questions! Like @TAT2MAMI said, the Haight neighborhood is a nice walk with boutiques and hippy shops. Golden Gate Park is also beautiful to see.

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies! Hearing your suggestions has me even more excited about my trip! I am staying at Hotel Nikki one block from Union Square. Our plans were to take the cable car to chinatown for lunch and then hop back on down to fishermans wharf. We were thinking of doing one of those catamaran bay cruises that takes you under the bridge and around alcatraz. Do you think that would be better than hopping on a bus to the bridge? I'd love to see Haight street, but I worry that with it being on yet another bus trip, I may be pushing it to try and see too much in 1 day. On the other hand, we are driving back from Napa on Thursday and we will have a car, so perhaps I can make that one of our final stops before heading home! I think that would be perfect!
There is this really fun boat down by Pier 39. It's called the "Rocket Boat" and it goes fast and blares music as it takes you around the bay. I went on it last year when my aunts visited from Southern Cal. However, it doesn't really take you by Alcatraz or the Golden Gate, but I know that some of the other ships do. I think you and your DH are going to have a great time! Did you say you were going wine tasting in Sonoma? Sonoma has a lovely square downtown with cute shops. Very old school feel.
You know what I would recommend? One of the tourist boats sounds fantastic. You could also stop by the GG Bridge on your way back from Napa if you take 101 back. There will be a parking area, and you can park and walk a little bit of it (not the whole length) for the experience. The Marin headlands are right there near the bridge, and you'd find some beautiful views of San Francisco: https://www.nps.gov/goga/marin-headlands.htm
Haight Street is cool, but I don't necessarily think that it is a must-see for a short visit.

I agree with @URMySunshin77 about Haight Street. I would recommend seeing other places before going there. The Vista Point is great for parking and has amazing views of the Golden Gate and Alcatraz.
Awesome suggestions, ladies! I def agree about going to see GG when we are on the way back, I think that will work out great! And I heard about the rocket boat thingy but I think we were leaning more towards a booze cruise. lol
