5k while preg?

I've been working to get back in shape. Was working toward a 5K by August. Been walking/jogging 3-5 miles a day. Should I stop until I see a dr or would it be safe to keep going?
I'm not very far along, according to my period I'm 6 weeks according to when I got my IUD removed more like 3-4 weeks?

  • It's fine. Keep it up, baring any complications your doc will tell you if you did it before you were pregnant still do it. Don't start new exercises you haven't tried yet though.

  • It's a fine art lol. You can search how to's in the search bar. I am
Mobile right now so I can't go look to tell you lol.

Btw with my last pregnancy (had him just in sept) I did 3 5ks and plan on doing some this season too.

  • If your concerned, check with your doctor, but I have heard of plenty of women completing 5ks and other goals while pregnant. It all depends on your body and your pregnancy.

As long as you were doing it before you got pregnant, it's completely ok!! (I'm running a 1/2 this Sunday and I'm 5wks!). Big thing is to listen to your body, fatigued? Out of breath? Stop. You should be able to carry on a conversation while doing physical fitness. Don't start anything new that your body's not used to.

  • sounds like I'd be good to continue. I've been doing 3-5 miles a day since January of 2014 and was doing 1-3 miles a day since April of 2013. Thank you ladies.

I ran one when I was 5 weeks, I have one this weekend and next weekend (9 weeks and 10 weeks) and I have a 12 mile race at 16 weeks.

You'll be fine if you just keep up with what you have been doing!

Listen to your body and adjust as necessary. I'm almost 7 weeks and did an Ironman on Saturday and everything checked out fine yesterday. I cut my pace back and took extra care to stay hydrated and cool. The only thing I was told was to consider reducing impact since ligaments will become weaker so no more ultra distances for me. I think if you've been running for some time that the stress of a 5K shouldn't be that significant.

  • I agree with everyone above.  If you were running before, if you check with your doctor, if you listen to your body.
PLUS - I just ran a 5k and we're both doing fine.  I plan to continue to run and even enter in 10k and 10miler events.
Additional bonus - working out DURING helps regain pre-baby bod after birth!!

Anything you did pre-pregnancy is fine (although always check with your doctor). And listen to your body...if you're tired/hungry/achy....take a break and take care of yourself!! Growing a baby is a lot of work!
