Cloth Diapering

f&hwc Thursday edition

How are we doing today?

Anyone up for a day of handwashing all laundry?   Hmmmm, me neither.I think I will be one happy mama when my new-to-me washer/dryer are delivered tomorrow.

So is handwashing and hang drying flats easier than machine washing/drying AIOs?

If I remember correctly two or more of us use flats normally......will you be using flats when the challenge is done?

Any other fun questions for today?

  • I'm packing for a 10-day trip, part of which I will probably do some handwashing. So I'll be joining you in the challenge for the last couple nights.

I'm kind of surprised by how many people on the FB page are using machine detergent AND not wearing gloves. Ouch!

  • I like knowing that if I had to do this I could, but I am not in any way enjoying this. I think I'm getting the washing/rinsing part down tho. Or at least I don't know yet that I'm doing it all wrong lol. My biggest issue is time. I can't bring J in the bathroom with me, and I try to wash while he's playing, but the reality is he's a baby. A needy baby.

Whenever I'm handwashing, I use soaking to my advantage, even in rinse water. So I don't usually get it all done all at once, but it kind of works out better that way IMO.

    It all revolves around you.
  • Aha, that makes sense. I can't tell you how many times when in vacation I've wanted to punch J for throwing a dirty diaper into my clean diapers waiting to be rinsed.

  • I use one mop bucket for washing. I dump the dipes into the tub or sink during water changes and wring before putting back into bucket. I'm the only one home with ds during the day so no worries about someone else putting a dirty one in with my clean ones. I start immediately after changing him out of his overnight diaper so odds of him needing a diaper change before I'm done are slim.

  • Oh! But now I was able to get a stash shot since all my pockets are in the drawers. So I know exactly how many I have :D

    And that number is? :-SS

@Chickypoo2468‌ , I don't have to have them all clean to know I have 5 Kawaii, 3 BG 4.0, 1 Diaper Safari, 1 Nicki's, and 2 GoGreen champs (that I have listed to sell on a local diaper swap board) and 2 Thirsties on order (used store credit from selling my Imagine inserts). I also have my SoftBums Omni that I'm keeping for swimming. The nice thing about knowing exactly what diapers you own is that it's easier to mentally inventory to make sure you haven't forgotten one somewhere. Had that happen once when dd was in prefolds as a nb.....xh took a bag of dirties out of the car and set in the "garage" ......they were found a few months later after I cancelled the diaper service......let's just say they were trashed.

ETA, I also have 6 BB shells, 1SweetPea cover, 1 SoftBums Echo, 12 GMD red edge prefolds that I don't use, 4 toddler sized prefolds that I use for changing ds on, and 24 birdseye flats.

  • LLOL, I have forgotten to pick up ds1 from school before.....sadly, it happened in the same week that both dd and dh forgot to pick him up on their days as well. Now I keep an alarm set.

  • Well rats.....we tried disconnecting the old washer in prep for the delivery of the "new" washer.....now we have to have a plumber come out before we can connect the new one.....the shut off valves don't work very well. One dh managed to get turned off all the way but the other one doesn't turn off 100% and we're not sure that we'll be able to turn them back on......Oh well, the replacement of all water turn off valves is on the to do list.....including the main valve since it doesn't work right either. So I am without washer for a few days.......means no cheating and ending challenge early AND handwashing any clothes needed before new washer is available since I really don't want to haul to laundromat....
