Baby Names

Help name Avery Elise's little sister!!

My husband and I named our little Avery very quickly and without a whole lot of disagreement.  We love her name and I'm finding it VERY  hard to name her little sister!!  We wanted something a little different, but still a normal sounding name.  I do not want to name her Ashley, Amanda, Jessica, Katie, etc.  Here is our list of names so far.  Could anyone please help me with picking one.  I am open to suggestions on middle names or if you have something in a similar style, but different.  We are desperate!

Name choices:

Addison Everly Boggs

Eden Everly Boggs

Adalyn Brielle Boggs

Adley Olivia Boggs

Kennedy (MN??) Boggs

Kinley Brielle Boggs

Samantha Taylor Boggs

Morgan Everly Boggs

Lainey Taylor Boggs

Brielle (MN??) Boggs

I really love Adley but wasn't sure if it was too "out there."  My husband doesn't think that Kinley sounds like a real name and he said Eden sounds like Eatin' and she'll get made fun of...  Just hoping for some good opinions or options over here!  Please let me know which names are your favorites or if you'd alter any of them.  Potential problems, etc.  Thanks!!  =)

I like Eden and Lainey from your list. All others are NMS.

What about Lena, Ella, or Piper?

    Edit: hit post too soon

You think of Amanda, Ashley, etc. as "normal" names because they are the names of your generation. Avery, Addison, etc. are the "normal" names of your kids' generation. ETA: example: Jessica is currently ranked #163, Avery is #12.

Avery and Adley is too matchy.

From this list, I'd choose Samantha.
This. I know 4 Addison's under 3. I know a numerous versions of your Adalyn/Kinsey choices as well. Samantha or Morgan would be names I actually haven't heard recently.
  • Have you looked at the top 100 from 2013, or any from this decade? You'll likely find more inspiration there as well as get an idea of what is more popular.

Please don't choose Lainey.  I am 99% sure that Lainey Boggs was the name of a character on a 90's chick flick.  ("She's All That")

Yes!! I was racking my brain trying to remember where I had heard it. I was thinking Mean Girls

  • The only names I like from your list are Eden and Olivia, but I don't particularly like them paired together. The other names range from not my style to downright awful.

  • Samantha is the best one on your list.
  • I first want to say I have one of those dated 80s name, so I completely understand not wanting your child to have one. However, whether you meant to or not you have selected some very "in the moment" names. If I was a betting woman I would say 20 years from now you will look at a girl with the name Addison and say, "yeah, she was born in the 2010s." I would strongly suggest looking at the social security listings for names to see actual popularity. I was also cross off any name with a "Lynn" or "lee" sounding ending; they are a dime a dozen.

  • From your list I would pick either Samantha or Eden. May I also suggest Adelaide, Juliet, Ivy, Isla, or Audra?

  • Lainey! My DD is Delaney nn Laney and if this baby was a girl she would've been Avery :)

  • I pick Samantha.  I really like that name.  I prefer Morgan for a boy but don't mind it for a girl.  Eden and Lainey are ok.  The others are not so good.

I like Addison. Avery and Addison.

I actually like Addison a lot, and would consider it for my own dd (plus, she must have a name starting with A) but it's one letter away from my name so I think it might be confusing. Me and my girls are all named with A names.

Come to think of it, I like Avery too, hmmm.
  • Morgan is a great name.  :)

But seriously, from your list, I'd choose Eden.

  • I like Samantha and Morgan. I can also get behind Kennedy because it's my cousins name and it fits her well. Most of your list is from the top 100 from 2013 so they will not be as different as you want.

I could support Samantha, Morgan, and Eden.  The rest are way too trendy and/or masculine for me.  I mean, if I were trying to come up with a list of names that will sound to our kids' generation like Ashley and Amanda do to ours, Addison and Kennedy would be on it.
