My DD's favorite toy (18 months now) has been her "old school" painted wooden blocks of different shapes that came in a wooden box from Toys R Us ever since her birthday. She obviously goes through phases but she loves them and at first it was just carrying them around and handing the blocks out to everyone in the room, then it moved to us stacking the blocks and her knocking them down, and now she's starting to stack them and trying to put the shapes through the right holes on the box. Very traditional toy (actually bought by my grandmother) and she loves her blocks!
We received a 6 pack box of Tonka's Toughest Minis emergency vehicles as a gift for DS shortly after his first birthday. They are relatively small (maybe 6-7 inches long). He LOVES them and has played with them every single day since he got them (he's now 20 months). They all make a few different sounds and he loves "driving" them around!
Here's a link to them on Tonka's website... I don't see the 6 pack though (maybe it was something special for Costco.. I know that's where they came from)
Books, balls, and the Fisher Price Record Player (DH has a record player and DS liked to emulate him). He also liked his 3-in-1 push and ride, and toddler puzzles.
He has loved his cozy coupe car, wooden diggers from plan toys, and his b toys fire engine. Basically anything transportation related. We also have a play tunnel that he liked a lot!
The Melissa and Doug pull and go cars are a pretty big hit here. Also anything that he can make play music. We have the old school Fisher price record player that he likes and the wind up radio.
