Diaper bag vs purse

Anyone else have this issue or a solution?

I carry a regular purse during the day (to work) or if I ever get to leave the home without DS - I have a separate diaper bag for all other travels. My problem is this 1) I'm sick of transferring my stuff (phone, wallet etc) between bags and 2) When I pick DS up from daycare I don't have any supplies which makes it hard to make any stops on the way home.

So - do I bring the bag with me everywhere (can't leave it in the car in fear of frozen wipes in the winter and melty snacks in the summer) or do I get a new bag that doubles as both and deal with the fact that I will have to schlep diapers and sippy cups EVERYWHERE?

At this point, i just keep a little cosmetic bag in my purse that fits exactly 2 diapers and a little 10-wipe flatpack. That's all we really need regularly. If we are going to be stuck somewhere for an extended period of time, I might just grab a baggy of Cheerios or raisins and stick that in my purse too.

  • I was having a similar issue so I went out and bought a cosmetics bag and I use it to carry diapers, wipes, snacks and sippy cups.  It has been working out great.  I wrote a blog post about it on my blog, organizedsaver.com.  I also have a quick youtube video on it.  People seemed to like the idea and like I said, it has been working great for me.

Everyone else pretty much covered it. I carry 1 diaper in my purse and a couple snacks if we go out and hardly ever bring the diaper bag anymore. I usually have a fresh sippy of water in the car when we go out too but otherwise, I can buy him a milk, water or a snack. I try to bring as little with us as possible.
Both of these. I throw a diaper or two and a pack of wipes in my purse and he carries a water sippy and maybe a snack that can be thrown in my purse also when he is done carrying them.

  • Thank you all - looks like I'm probably carrying more stuff when needed.
And to clarify - I didn't mean melty like yogurt or frozen items - just things that might get weird if left in a hot car (fruit leathers are his favorite).

  • I'm probably no help but just thought I'd share that my DD is 21 months and anytime we go out to run errands, doctors visits, or somewhere after daycare my DH or myself always take her diaper bag and put it in whomever's car that she will be riding in. It's much easier for us just to have everything we need for her in one bag and not worry if we left something out of it and just keep it filled with the essential stuff we need. If we are home with her I will put my keys, wallet, phone, in the outside zip pockets and it works out really well. I have the skip hop diaper bag that I bought from bed bath and beyond and it holds a lot and we love it! Even when we go on long road trips/vacation we always take it with us just to have the essentials right at hand (diapers, wipes, butt cream, crackers, animal crackers, any medication and it's dispensers in a ziplock bag, first aid kit, something cold for her to drink, etc) Just stuff that we want to keep on hand in case of anything.
  • I ditched the diaper bag around 12 months. I switched to a bigger purse (I have a large sized longchamp bag) the con is that it has literally no pockets but the plus is it holds a ton. I have a large ziploc bag with diapers, wipes, boogies wipes etc). For the most part, I work full time, drop off DD at daycare and DH picks her up. If we're headed out, the bag fits a ton so I stock with whatever we'll need for the day.
  • I still carry the diaper bag as well. My daughter is 15 months and I never know when she is going to spit up or have a diaper blowout. For me, it's convenient because my babysitter likes us to bring the diaper bags. On the weekends, all I do is through my wallet in the diaper bag and I am ready to go. I am probably doing too much but I still keep a pack of wipes in the car regardless. Lol.. I may need them for myself!
  • I never use my diaper bag so what I did was get a nice tote bag that also doubles as a purse. In a pouch, I carry 3 diapers, travel wipes, band aid, hand wipes & a wet bag. In the car i put some diapers & wipes in a bag incase my h is out with him.
