Pregnant after IF

What is the minimum quality to freeze eggs?

I am on my 5th IVF round.  Unfortunately my progesterone levels were too high and the Dr wanted to freeze my eggs and do a FET next month.  They called today saying they only froze one of 6 eggs.  It's a 3BB.  1 arrested, but they discarded 2 morulas, 1 3CC and 1 4AC.  I am so mad they discarded the 3CC and the 4AC because I have read other people freezing those quality embryos.  And I just read a few stories of people getting pregnant with 4ACs.  I keep telling myself that they are the experts and they wouldn't throw away a potentially viable embryo, but I am fuming.  It doesn't make any sense to me why they wouldn't have just frozen them.  What's the downside?

Re: What is the minimum quality to freeze eggs?

  • Sadly it comes down to their policy and cost. My clinic will not freeze anything they feel like will not survive the thaw so they have strict requirements. They would have let the embryos go until day 6 maybe 7 and that's it, the embryos also have to meet a certain grade to be frozen. Some clinics will freeze on day 3. It really depends on the clinics policies. We were told all this up front so I would be mad that their policies weren't fully explained. I'm sorry.

  • I'm not sure if my clinic has actual requirements (I'm sure they do, I just don't know what they are), but I do know that I have several frozen embryos with AC, CA, BC, CB, but mine are all 5 or 6 blasts, so maybe that's the difference.  If I were you I'd ask why why why until I had a darn good answer that you were comfortable with, especially since that only left you with one to freeze.
