Trouble TTC

IUI Fail

Whelp, got my beta, .062.  With such promising stats, (5 mature follicles at trigger, 16.3 million PW 69% motility, E2 1100, 7 day P4 56) ...why the fail? I'm so sad.  This was my first IUI, is there hope for #2?

Re: IUI Fail

  • I'm so sorry for your BFN. It seems like the negative test on the medicated cycle is just that much harder to take. And, yes! Of course there is hope for your second IUI! There better be, I'm doing my 2nd round now too. ;-) In fact, when I look through the BFP list on the 3T check-in or the IUI check-in I noticed that many, many BFPs were on the 2nd IUI. I didn't count, but that was my observation when I looked through, wondering the same thing.

  • So sorry! What a disappointment after the numbers were all so perfect. :(

From what I've read, the first 3 IUIs all have about an equal chance of success (that is, BFN the first IUI doesn't indicate lower chance of IUI working for you; only if it doesn't work after 3, that starts to indicate statistically a possibility that it won't work).

And also from what I've read, the next 3 (#4-6) have only slightly reduced results compared to #1-3. After #6, the chances drop of significantly.

Of course, IUI in itself has low chances each month (up to 15-20% with a PCOS diagnosis; maybe 5-7% with a different IF diagnosis, all else being equal) so don't worry, you are in good company and no reason to give up hope! :)

  • I'm so sorry for the BFN. Good luck with your second IUI, I agree with pp I see where lots of ppl seem to have better luck with the second. Sometimes I think the 1st try is the Dr getting the meds right, or at least that's what it was in my case. Good luck!
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • Sorry about the bfn.  In all my research and conversations with my doctors, there are pretty good stats on up to 4 IUIs, so I wouldn't lose hope just yet!  Good luck!

  • I know how you feel.  My last IUI was technically perfect, too, but I'm not pregnant yet :( I was on Clomid before - doctor thinks maybe Clomid wasn't the right medicine for me so I am trying Femara + Follistim this cycle.  All we can do is keep trying!  For many women, it takes a few IUIs before we get that beautiful second line.

    Hang in there!!!  (((HUGS)))

I'm sorry about your BFN. @ddvj79 posted a couple of links to articles regarding IUI success rates that I found really interesting, and I thought you might want to see them too.

I'm so sorry. I know this doesn't help but unfortunately that's the nature of the IUI game. I know of 2 women from other forums who just got their BFPs with just 1 follicle and somewhere under 5-6 mil PW. While that is encouraging in one way its also discouraging in its own way because it hasn't worked for us yet.

For me, all cycles were with femara - IUI #1 & #2 (I had follistim on CD9) were BFN (had just one follicle though), the SA PW was pretty decent too like 16mil with 43% motility. This cycle (IUI#3) I had injectables CD 8-12, DH's sample was the best yet and I had 1 mature follicle @19mm trigger & other 2 were 14mm &15mm each. and I am 9 DPIUI today and based on what my body's saying, I cant say I am feeling hopeful this time either. I wish they had a cheaper way of doing IVF, the emotional roller coaster is way too hard but I have to say hang in there and you never know when its your turn for a BFP!

    Take care sweetie...

DH :  36, has Chronic Kidney Disease, on dialysis & is waiting on the transplant list (average wait for B+ is 5 years)

Me:   36, Hypothyroidism, PCOS, BMI 32, need to be done with "child bearing" ASAP so that I can be a Kidney donor (was fun realizing we didn't as much time as we thought :-/ )

    We're TTC#1

    IUI #1 : 5mcg Letrozole (CD 3-7) + Ovidrel Trigger + Had the one follicle = BFN  (March 2014)

IUI #2 : 5mcg Letrozole (CD 3-7) + 150 iu Bravelle on CD9 (after much begging!) + Had the one follicle = BFN (April 2014)

7th May 2014 - changed REs, this one seems to care (we think....)

    IUI #3 : 7mcg Letrozole (CD 3- 7) + 75 iu Bravelle (CD 8-12) + CD12 Scan 5/16 + Had 3 follicles (2 under 15mm) = BFN(May 2014)

    IUI #4 : 7mcg Letrozole (CD 3- 7) + 75 iu Bravelle (CD 8-12) + CD12 Scan 5/16 + Had 1 follicle + DH gave best sample so far = BFN(June 2014)

IVF#1 -  ER Only Cycle Sept-Oct 2014, 17  eggs Retrieved, 14 mature, 10 fertilized, 6 made it to Blast & post PGS  5 were not viable due to chromosomal abnormalities
Not sure where we go from here...

We're parents to two very adorable, bratty, affectionate & goofy Bernese Mountain Dog pups who would very much like a 2 legged baby brother or sister of their own!
