Sanitizing bottles

When can you stop sanitizing bottles? My DH asked me and I realized I have no idea!

Re: Sanitizing bottles

  • I haven't sanitized a bottle in 3 months

Only sanitized them once before the first use. Sometimes when I get something new that says it needs to be sanitized (new pacifier, new nipples, etc) I'll throw in some of the old stuff for a quick sanitize then too, otherwise we just wash in hot soapy water.

  • I throw them in the DW every night.

And my FFC on Tuesday is that this morning, one of the nipples fell on the ground. I picked it up, wiped it off and put it back on the bottle.

  • I sanitize the parts of the bottle every night. Mostly because I have the Medela Quick Steam bags left over from when DD was a baby and it would be a shame not to use them. But when I run out I won't be buying more.

  • I still sterilize all bottle parts after each use. We have had issues with water quality in the passed and just would rather sterilize rather than worry. Only takes a few minutes to wash them and then throw them in the sterilizer before going to bed. Don't really know when we will stop doing that.

  • I haven't sanitized since first use. I had the best of intentions to sanitize once a week but that never happened. They get washed w warm soapy water after every use.

  • I sterilize every time I wash [I hand wash every night], but most people I know sterilize only before first use, or they just throw them in the dishwasher. I didn't stop sanitizing until after DS stopped using bottles, and I'll probably do the same this time. I'm just OCD like that.

  • I run them all through the sanitize cycle on my dishwasher once a week. In a book I have I read to do it everyday for the first 6 months. I don't know when I will stop doing it once a week.

  • I just hand wash everything in hot, soapy water.  I also have the Medela Quicksteam bags, but at this point it's more of a hassle to hand wash and then sanitize, and I haven't noticed any issues.

I hand wash and sanitize each night. I never think the use our dishwasher because with the 2 of us it takes a couple days to fill up. I didn't realize I didn't have to sanitize still. Rookie mom here haha. Glad to know, it doesn't take long with my microwave sanitizer but it just takes up a lot of room on my counter so I thought id ask! Thank you to everyone for your input, I think I'll pack it away for the next babe :)
  • I sanitized them when we first got them, and then maybe once a month since?

  • When my daughter was in the NICU, the nurses told us not to bother because a) as soon as it touches *anything* it's not sterilized anymore and b) it degrades the nipples and bottles much faster than if you were just washing with hot, soapy water. I sometimes throw paci's in the bottle warmer and steam for five minutes, but I hardly ever sterilize anything past the first use.

  • Rarely ever. I did it faithfully the first month or so but not anymore. Just hot soapy water like the rest of the ladies
  • Sanitized for first use...my pedi said it isn't needed with our water supply, yours should be able to tell you if you need to continue! We just wash everything in warm soapy water each night. I have the quick steam bags but lately even that is not quick enough for me!

I sterilized my bottles before I used them. Other than that, I clean them with hot soapy water. #Aintnobodygottimefodat

I do sterilize my pump parts and bottles after each use using my microwaveable sterilizing bag because it is so effing easy.

So ecstatic my doctor told me today at our 4 month appointment we do not have to sanitize bottles and pacifiers anymore.
