Workout/5k Check In

This week's couch to 5k workout: Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 90 seconds of jogging and two minutes of walking for a total of 20 minutes. (3 days/week)

  • What work outs/5k training did you get in last week (if you've started)?
  • What are your goals this week?
  • GTKY: What new challenges are you finding as you get back into working out either with as a new parent or new parent of an additional child? Any tips to overcoming this or other challenges you can share?

    • I am back in the gym for the 2nd week and it is starting to feel better. I did 2 days of elliptical(30 minutes) and 1 day of legs with weight.
    • What are your goals this week?
    • 5 days: 3 days cardio with abs and 1 days legs, 1 day upper body.

    • Being sore and still caring around a child. My body aches all over. Just trying to stretch as much as possible

--I just got a lot of walking in last week. DD is still not napping during the day and has been either really cranky or cluster feeding in the afternoons. So I'm not even getting much dons in general. By the end of the day she fights bedtime so I'm just too tired. So walking for now, with the stroller, when I can. Very frustrating. Especially since I think my first race back is going to be on the 4th of July and I don't have too much time to get back at it.

What are your goals this week?
--Try to get out for a walk once a day and start some running.

--As a new parent I just don't have the time and I still can't leave DD with anyone at this point. I miss working out and running 5 days a week. For right now I'm just trying to work with what I can; taking DD on walks.

  • Guys, I sucked this past week. I ran (slowly and not far) last Monday, and that's it. There are some walks here and there... a benefit of living in the city is that I can walk for some of our errands. But that's it. I have been tired/busy/unmotivated. And I'm eating pretty terribly, too. My clothes don't fit yet, which I would think should be motivation. But not so far! UGH. I'm trying not to pressure myself too much, and to just relax until LO sleeps better and I'm not so tired. But there will always be an excuse, too.

I think one thing I need to do is actually sign up for a 5k. Having a specific race to train for always helped me in the past. By next week's check in, I will sign up for one, to get the ball rolling!
  • I just had my 6 WK check up today so I haven't started yet. I also return to work Thursday so I will be exhausted mentally and physically.

I plan to start slow and do daily stroller walks for a couple of weeks and then start the c25k after Memorial day - mainly because after working all day I don't want to be away from her more than I have to so I thought that will ease into things better. Luckily I have older kids that can help watch her if I stick to running in the neighborhood for now
