LO still rarely wants anything to do with baby food. But loves the puffs and baby yum Yums. He is 8 months now. What table food are you or have you been feeding your LO?
Pretty much anything we are eating. In the morning she does cereal and fruit ( banana, mango, prunes, kiwi etc) then for lunch usually some avocado, or soup, or yogurt and berries. Then at dinner she does some meat and steamed veggies, but if we are eating pasta that's what she eats:)
Do you guys cut up the stuff really small? DS still gags on most non puréed food. He will eat puffs but pretty much gags his way through it.
It depends what it is, soft fruits I just cut into long strips, same with toast and avocado. But with broccoli and cauliflower I cut the top off and then cut it into smaller pieces because for some reason she doesn't do well with the stems. Same with meat I cut it into thin smaller pieces.
I'm so afraid to move past the purées. We tried puffs once and I was so scared he would choke. How did you ladies get past the fears?? He's just had yogurt and purées and oatmeal at this point.
My LO gags ridiculously on the puffs so I have yet to try any other table foods. She doesn't seem to have a sensitive gag reflex otherwise (toys, binky, etc) so I have no idea why!
DD has been reaching for and eating table foods for a while now. I give her soft meats like chicken breast in little tiny pieces, soft rice, toast, lots of fruits, crackers, pasta, steamed veggies, etc.
@jnetx you're right they do dissolve easily... I'm going to try them again. He made me so nervous when he had them but that was also a couple of weeks ago and he's been eyeing our table food ever so much more!
I've done strips of dry toast with the crust cut off. She likes to suck on strawberries, I make sure it's a big one. Same with honeydew. Scrambled eggs weren't a huge hit so I'm gonna try them again in a couple weeks. She loves banana bread, I just give her little crumb size pieces of it.
I break the puffs into small pieces but haven't really given her any in a few days because her dad insists we wait until she is 9 months like the container says.. *eyeroll* she loves them though so I was sneaking some to her every now and again!
I'm gonna try giving her strips of steak to see if she likes gnawing on it.
My DD loves food! We haven't found anything she doesn't like yet. She doesn't have any teeth yet though so I still break or cut everything up really small. But even without teeth she does chew any food you give her so I'm not super worried about her inhaling anything and choking. I do keep a close eye on her when she's eating though. She started getting pureed fruits and veggies at 4 months (I told the Dr) she was getting 6 or more 8 ounce bottles of formula a day otherwise. It's been so much fun watching her try new flavors and textures.
Homemade applesauce is her absolute fav though, this was the first thing she got and she still loves it. I just cut up and apple and steam it then puree it. When we were introducing new foods I would mix it with the applesauce the first couple of times.
Maybe it's a texture thing for your baby. Have you tried feeding him tiny pieces of food rather than a pureed baby food?
I'm starting to give LO more of what we eat in just tiny pieces. I just am very paranoid of him choking. But tonight he had some toast and loved rice. The other day he loved grits with a lil bit of scrambled eggs in them. I haven't tried the Cheerios tho. They seem so hard for them. I know I'm a worrier. This is my first LO. I'm sure with baby 2 he/she will have had a steak on her own by now. Lol
I'm terrified of LO chocking (again). Besides purees I've only attempted giving her little bits of apple, zuchini, mashed potatoes, and puffs a few times. She chocked on the apple and that has scared the crap out of us. She's done very well with the mashed potatoes (I roll some up into a little ball so she can pick it up) and puffs (each one broken up into 6 smaller pieces). I'm sticking with those so she gets use to eating this way.
We still do a lot of purees, but LO does love puffs and has tried mashed potatoes. With other table food, he has gagged and then puked everything up. Not sure when that will get better!
My LO has only had banana in a mesh feeder, puffs, and mashed potatoes. She loves oatmeal and purees so I'm in no rush to give her table food. I didn't start table food with DD1 until 11 months and she's soooo picky, so I'll probably start slowly introducing more food next month for DD2.
My LO is so hit and miss when it comes to solids. She barely eats anything offered to her and prefers milk to everything . If I find something she actually consumed the next time she is offered it she denies it.
