Okay, So, I posted a couple days about switching to cloth diapers from disposables. And so far its been mostly trying to figure how many diapers I'll need for two babies (a ten month old and a newborn coming in October) but I think I have it sorted out. Here's what my thoughts are so far:
36 flats or prefolds. - I haven't decided for sure, but I am leaning more towards flats because I wouldn't have to buy two different sizes.
10 diaper covers - I figure two newborn and four one size for each of them should be enough?
12 one size pocket diapers - I'm really only going to use them for overnight or while we're out and most likely only on my DD until the other baby can fit into them. And by then we'll probably (hopefully) have added more to our stash.
Bamboo inserts. - Haven't figured how many I'll need... half dozen? or would a dozen be more safe? Sunbaby sells them per dozen and I'm thinking that's where I'll get them from.
2 diaper pail liners
2 or 3 wetbags for the diaper bag
and of course some snappis, but I'm not sure how many. 3? I think I saw somewhere that they came in a 3 pack.
What do you think? Too much? Too little? Anything I'm missing?
Re: I think I have it sorted...maybe.
The only thing that you will definitely need more of right away is nb covers. 4 is fine for OS, but you need more for nb, not less. If the flats or prefolds and covers is the only type of diapers you plan on using for the nb, then you should plan on having more like 6+ covers if you plan on washing EOD, or 4 for every day washing. Newborns poop way more often, and that poop is way more likely to run onto the cover.
If you go with preolds, you will want more than 36 total, because you will need a minimum of 2 different sizes.
