Another BFN... So discouraging.

I'm really bummed today because I got a BFN for IUI #4.1. I have a WTF appt scheduled for Friday morning (as long as DH can get off work) and I'm thinking IVF and hoping we can go straight into it but not sure what that would mean.

I was thinking this morning after I went to bed (woke up at 5-something to pee so tested then) how ironic it is that I got my period at the age of TEN and had to deal with the drama and embarrassment of having a period at that age; and from that time until my early to mid-twenties I had regular cycles every. Single. Month. Except for the second ever one, and I remember being so hopeful that it had stopped, lol. I didn't have symptoms of any issues until around the time of TTC which sucks and makes me wonder if I had not been so cautious in earlier years if I would have been able to get pregnant then.

I've always said that if I have to deal with IF and won't get preg anyway, then I certainly shouldn't have to deal with having periods! It's soooo unfair!

Question for fellow IVFers: is it possible to start a cycle of that right away or will there be time for prepping possibly? I've heard of having to do BC, IVF classes, etc.

I'm so sorry for the BFN.

As soon as I got my BFN on my last cycle I called my RE and told them it was negative and I wanted to start IVF. I went in for an appt the next day and they went over everything I needed to know and discussed the protocol I was going to be on. I then started bc a few days later and suppose to be on it for 3 weeks. I go back for an us next Friday and if everything looks good (no cyst) then I'll start stimming for IVF a few days after that. We've already ordered all my meds and ready to go just waiting to end the bc.

Sorry for the bfn. After my last failed IUI, I started BC 5 days after my period started. I was on those for 16 days, then stimmed for 11 days. Basically an IVF cycle is 6 weeks long, if everything goes ok. Good luck at your wtf appointment and feel free to pm me with any questions as It can get overwhelming quick for your first cycle.

I'm so sorry for the bfn! I haven't done ivf so I don't have answers for that. But please be kind to yourself.

My clinic requires a "testing" cycle. During this cycle, I had to get a SHG (where they also took measurements to be used in ET), infectious disease labs, my FSH and AMH rechecked, infectious disease labs for DH, and other labs for me. Then the following month I was able to start BCP but I couldn't because of insurance stuff. My clinic requires all testing be complete, insurance be approved, and total amount paid before starting. We had to wait to see what insurance would approve so we knew how much to pay. When I start BCP, I will be on them for 3 weeks and I will be adding Lupron the last week. When I get AF after that, I start stims and continue Lupron Until ER. Then I will be on PIO for at least 2 weeks after ER until I either get a BFN or if a BFP then I will be on progesterone suppositories for about 12 weeks I think. There are no classes I have to take but we did have to schedule a mandatory 1 hour counseling session before we start stims.

Sorry about the BFN I have an appt in several weeks to discuss the whole process of IVF so I don't have any advice on that. but I agree, if I can't have kids I am certainly don't think I should have to deal with AF for another 20 yrs!

It sounds like everyone's experiences are slightly different, but I'll share mine. I'm starting IVF and I started birth control the day after I got AF after my BFN. I'll be on that for 17 days, then have a baseline appointment, take 4 days off, then starting stims. While I'm on birth control, I had a mock transfer appointment and ordered meds, but not much else. From start of the bcps to (hopeful) embryo transfer is only about 5 weeks for me. It goes pretty quickly. I hope you are able to get started soon!

^^ this is exactly what my protocol was before we decided to do one last IUI. I wish you the best of luck!! It will all be worth it!

So sorry to hear of your BFN. They never do get easier.

As you see, I think many peoples stories will be different, but like others have, I will also share mine. My last IUI cycle (#3) was actually cancelled and changed to TI due to my lead follies being on the wrong side (I'm tubal factor). 

However, my RE and I already planned to move forward with IVF if IUI #3 didn't work, so I was able to get my protocol and Med info before the next CD1.

I had my repeat BW and Mock transfer during the 2 week period I had to take BCPs. I didn't need to take the med class, since I had been doing trigger and FSH injects during my IUIs. (My only IM injection for IVF#1 will be my trigger, all others are SC). And I have my baseline appt tomorrow before I start taking meds on Saturday.

My clinic also requires Insurance approval and payment before they can start the cycle, but they are nice and, since they knew I wanted to start right away, they gave me until my baseline appt to pay and get approval (we just got all approvals and paid yesterday). 

Overall, once we made the decision to got for it, things started happening really fast!!! Good luck for your next cycle.

Sorry about the BFN, you and I are in very similar positions.  Just before Easter our 4th IUI failed so we booked our IVF consult.  I had done 4 injects + IUI cycles, so the up side is that we already know how I respond to those meds.  We were going to do a 5th IUI this cycle while prepping for IVF, so as not to do nothing, but then we found I had cysts so we did a natural cycle, let the ovaries chill out a little.  

I'm basically starting my IVF cycle as soon as CD1 rolls around, the only thing we did before hand, during this cycle, was more b/w for H and myself (I think all the STDs and other tests) and then today I had an endo scraping - this isn't done everywhere but there is promising research so my RE suggested it.  Some people do BCPs first but that's not every protocol, you'll find out more about what your cycle will look like and when it can start during your consult.  Some clinics have batch cycles, my clinic you can do IVF any time.  Good luck with whatever you decide!!

((Hugs)) so sorry we had to do infectious disease testing, a saline ultrasound, etc prior to starting, and did that while on a few weeks of BCPs. It takes a little time, but it's better to be prepared, as once the cycle starts it goes quickly!
