Trouble TTC

Had my HSG today :0(

Hey all I had my HSG today and I wish I can say it was pleasant..for some reason my left tube the dye was flowing really fast thru and because that one was so fast it didn't give my right one a chance I tried going on my side a little and because there was a lot of spillage I didn't get a definite answer on my right one :0( has this happened to anyone? Plus my blood work just came back my thyroid is around 6 so upped dosage from 50 to 75.. :0(

Re: Had my HSG today :0(

  • Sorry you had a tough experience.  I don't have any advice as I am currently awaiting AF to do an HSG, but just wanted to offer my support.  Are they going to try again or do they think the same thing would probably happen if it was tried again? Hope you get some more definitive answers sometime soon!

  • Congrats on your left! Sorry about the inconclusive results...did they give you any idea of what they might do to confirm results about the right tube?

  • My ob was the one to do it as well..she just kinda left is as my left was fine..trust me I'd rather have dealt with a couple more minutes of the pain then doing the whole thing over again..she didn't say anything about retake, in next couple weeks DH will take his semen analysis...

Ugh, that sucks. FX that you don't have to do it again- mine was really, really painful!!!! I agree with PP, your doc will probably review the pictures before ordering an entirely new HSG.

I'm sorry that you didn't get a definitive answer and that your b/w showed higher thyroid levels.
Miy HSG was wonky too (as you can see in my sig), but my lap showed that everything was completely clear. My ob did the HSG, and my RE thinks I may have had a uterine cramp or something that made it difficult to push the dye through. It was a bit uncomfortable, but I thought at the time my cramping was pretty minimal, so when I got the HSG results I was sure that it was right and that I definitely had blockage. During it, my OB said it looked like the right was totally blocked and the left was fairly open, and after reviewing the films the radiologist said it looked like it could be partial blockage on both sides. That's when we went to the RE and we decided to do the lap to double check everything and to make sure there was no hydrosalpinx, since we were planning to go straight into IVF.
I'm glad we did the lap, since we have the option to try IUIs first now. Also, my insurance has been covering everything diagnostic and anything medical that will "fix" medical IF issues, so I'm very lucky. It's covered the HSG and the lap, and it's covering my femara now, since it's treating my endo as well (our RE found it during the lap; I had no idea that I had any endo, I had no symptoms aside from IF).

I really hope you can get a clearer picture soon. <<<hugs>>>

  • I'm sorry you weren't able to get any definitive answers.  Was the tube blocked where it meets the uterus or at the end by the ovaries?  If was by the uterus it's completely possible it was a spasm.

Even if you do have a blocked tube it's not the end of the world!  My right tube is blocked and on all three of my medicated cycles I have gotten good follies on my good side!  My Dr. also isn't a proponent of laparoscopy (in his opinion in can cause even more damage and lots of times the tubes end up closing back up) and has had lots of success helping women with only one open tube get pregnant.  So don't let it get you too down!
