Strep B Test

Question. Is it necessary to have the Strep B test at a certain time? I was supposed to be tested tomorrow and my doctor just cancelled. I can squeeze an appointment in this week if necessary but would prefer to wait until next week. I will be over 37 weeks at my next appointment.

The receptionist that called to reschedule did not know if I needed to get in at 37 weeks or not. At first I didn't think it was a big deal and just scheduled for next week. Now I am questioning myself

I was told any time after 37 weeks. I'll be 38 at the appointment that I have the swab done.

Dr just said they want to make sure to get it done in time to have results by the time you go into labor. I don't think it takes very long to get the results though, so you'll be fine.

I would think next week should be fine.  they just want the results before you go into labor so you can get the antibiotics if needed (results only take 24-48 hours).  If you happen to go into labor earlier, I'm sure they have a back up plan on what to do in that scenario so I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree and just wanted to add that I didn't get my Strep B test at the doctor's office last time since I was supposed to have it at my 36 week appointment but went into labor shortly before that. They did the Strep B test ASAP when I got to the hospital but then they decided to go ahead with treating me with antibiotics as a precautionary measure rather than keep waiting for the results. It would be good to get it done but you'll be ok if you go into labor first.

i was just told today mine would be around 35 weeks and a handful of days.

Needs to be done within a month of delivering so most will collect them after 36 weeks.

Anytime before delivery. I was supposed to get mine next week at 36 and some days, but my dr decided that she wanted to go ahead and do it tomorrow since I have been having contractions and have been dilating since about 31 weeks

Mine said exactly 35 weeks 3 days or I would die. 

jk jk he just does it between 35 and 37 weeks but there is still some flexibility in there.

Ha, I was hoping mine would forget, too. Of course he did it during the one appointment where I hadn't shaved in a week and had on holey panties (not to be confused with holy panties).

My doctor asked me if I wanted to get mine done today, thinking I was 38 weeks (they changed over their computer system today so my weeks weren't coming up) and I said that I was 35 weeks and she said "oh no we won't do it yet". So I'm ASSUMING that my office does it at 37-38 weeks
